As the instigator of this thread I am interested in the way this has been received. A deliberate troll is sad (I thought they were extinct!?) and has no place in our forums…

I find Innuendo an incredibly moving album….’These are the days of our lives’, ‘The show must go on’, and the haunting ‘Bijou’ all make me sad but reflective. I fully realise that Queen had more than one genius in it (all you have to do is see the writers of some of the songs). It was also used as the soundtrack to the superb Phantom Phinale video shot by Nav/WEO ‘Bad Manners’….superb music, superb flying, superb editing what more could we want?

Since`Freddie we have seen the boys continuing to make him proud….watching Brian May on the roof of Buck palace was out of this world.

I have seen We will Rock You (just after it came out)….one word WOW!

The website for the Shearwater Aviation Museum, Nova Scotia has just been updated with pictures of recent progress on their airworthy restoration of Fairey Firefly FR.1 PP462. This is one of those airframes recovered from Ethiopia some years ago. It looks as though they’re heading into the final stages…

Cockpit green (c1940) was very nice and a good trade off for day/night flying, however, at night suffered from bad reflections in transparencies. The darker green of WW2 US aircraft was good in a similar fashion. Black (matt) of the gen 1 & 2 jets was good for lower reflections at night. Tornados ended up with grey but at first were not NVG (Night Vision Goggle) compatible. You could argue that black would not be particularly nice for IMC flying….as it would tire the eyes.
So it depends on the aircraft role, day/night and what electro optics (if any you plan to use).

Having established the cause of this immediate problem, I would suggest that time is now spent determining where the rest of the pilots pen is before another incident occurs.

They will, without your suggestion!…I am sure. I taxied out in a Hunter and looking up saw a nut missing from a bracket….pointed it out and we taxied back in. Aircraft required so many item missing in cockpit checks…culminating in seats out! Under the seat in a Hunter is a huge object magnet…or so it seems!

Every flyer will have lost something in the cockpit at one time. Someone I know has lost pens….it is easily done. The main thing is that people own up if they feel they have lost something. I always do the Brian Hanrahan check too.

FOD is taken very seriously in the Services. I would suggest that people mark all their pens with Dayglo sticky tape (we do!). Many pencils (propelling) have little end caps on them (protecting the eraser), cannot believe these get taken into aircraft.

A final boring story….I flew in a foreign operated Alphajet a few years back, we pulled some negative g and ended up with 8+ items of FOD (dont get hung up on the semantics of the word being damage as it detracts from the message!) in the canopy. Scooped up em, handed them to the groundcrew, who did not seem to care!
Anyway, I will now retreat back to Historic where I belong!!

I like it, but then again I love the Angel of The North…..was excited like a kid to see it in the flesh!
