Wow…very original, early mk 2
The fuselage was last offered at £5000 a few weeks ago! 😉
Yep and Steve wont post it to the winning bidder!!! Shame on him! 😉
I lived in Witney from 1979 to 1984. I would cycle around the county and area picking up Spitfire mainwheels, tailwheels and glider wheels from ditches, gardens etc.
We dug up on the dumps referred to in about 2000/1, we could not (were not allowed to) take in a digger…found some Spiteful parts…only small….the site is built on as is another where we found 14+ spitfire windscreen units and about 1000 others off other aircraft types. Also dug various maintenance units…those were the days!!
the main German stuff is apparently under the runway!
Flew in this beautiful bird in August…hope you get to keep her
Here is the Dak
and thanks Jan for the info
most of it ended up in the pond outside Dakotas in Fleet and the cockpit and other stuff inside the restaurant….lovely place, good food gone now.

Is that Edinburgh? The tattoo? – Nermal
gets my vote!
Tony,
I’ve never ever seen a photo of Barrys AEW3.
When quizzed on it, he said it was now “looking nice” but wouldn’t elaborate as to wether it was a cockpit like that at Dunkeswell or Hooten Park (shown below), or wether it was cut off at floor level etc, etc….
I can only assume that ~if~ no one has ever seen it/photographed it, that it must be small enough to be kept indoors ?
Cheers Dave
Is it just the cockpit? Looks nice! Barry Parkhouse had a cockpit at one stage…nice!!
I wonder if anybody can help??
I’m looking for any pics of WW2 Sentry boxes from American bases in the UK during the war, colour photos would be fantastic. Many Thanks
Jeff Ethell did a book of colour photos of WW2 US air bases which I am sure had pictures of sentry boxes. My copy is not too hand…would be a good bet…good luck
Rocketeer, just read the quote above again. I agree that life’s too short. It’s too short to waste it reading such meaningless posts.
My post was made in sheer frustration at reading yet another serial post from someone whose enthusiasm is without question, but whose ability to irritate is also without question. Is everyone else happy to carry on reading this sort of post in response to the majority of threads or have many reached for the ignore list already? I don’t consider my post to be nasty, I’m merely asking Ollie to consider how this flood of posts is perceived.
Perhaps I should join the ranks of the forum’s grumpy old men?
Fine, but just ignore it? Were you never young and over-enthusiastic?
Ollie will learn not to over-post, but a pm would be a nicer way of telling him rather than public ridicule? Just like Ollie will learn to spell and spell check (if he can be bothered, though I cannot be bothered as I believe informed or enthusiastic chat is better than being word perfect….we also need to remember that dyslexia is widespread now so criticising may be a bit unfair). This forum appears to have taken a down turn which is sad. Please lets make it fun again! 🙂
If you can’t tell the different Spitfire marks apart, then what possible use was your response. Please entertain the notion that not every post on this forum is an invitation for an Ollie Holmes response. This forum’s declined enough without becoming the Ollie Holmes Historic Aviation Forum.
You don’t have to answer EVERY thread or every post. Your enthusiasm is obvious, please don’t lose it. You’ll find yourself on less ignore lists if you stick to responding when you either know the answer to someone else’s questions or have one of your own.
Imagine yourself in a room chatting to people about a subject that you’re all interested in. How would you view someone who stood on the table and shouted a load of nonsense 161 times in three days?
Rob
What is all this nastiness about?! Life is too short to be nasty to enthusiastic people. 🙁
I believe the S.A aircraft incorporate some mods which were carried out on the Saudi fleet but not ours. The complexity issue more concerns manual reversion or lack of it
and the loss rate per hours flown.
There is also the need to have a decent training program for the aircrew who would operate complex aircraft.
