Interesting thread this. In 2003 my life fell apart with my marriage breakdown, few deaths, a nasty car crash blah blah. Up until that point I was one of those grass is always greener people. I’d winge about this and that, my job, not having this. The subsequent time has made me realise that:
a. You only have one life
b. Wingeing does not help anyone, be grateful there is always someone worse off
c. You can count on family and friends
d. Getting the most out of education means that you have more strings to your bow and can afford to be more choosy
e. The grass is not always greener
f. work to live not live to work
I am in my 18th year working at the same place and I love it. I just did not know how much until 2003. Sure I wish I was paid more, sure I wish the management were better and a bit more empathetic, but at the end of the day the work is generally good and it pays for my life path.
My 12 year old daughter talks as if leaving school at 16 is the only thing for her. She is bright and wants to be a hair dresser….nothing wrong with that…but try convincing her that it is better to get as many quals as possible. It is better to be over qualified and not use all your qualifications in your chosen career that to find you do not have enough.
