I think that there will be lessons for the Organisers to learn as there are with all events, especially new ones. I take my hat off to them for organising it. We had a great number into the museum (which did not organise the show). I am pleased you enjoyed the museum which is a charity and very worthy of supporting. As usual, the hands on nature was commended by many I greeted today.

Last nights Hangar dance was brilliant too and great value…..I certainly hope that will be repeated as it was great value and fun to boot!

Re post 470, Mark/XF940, I am surprised at you for this speculation. It is a herring rouge, unhelpful, irrelevant and not totally accurate. I don’t wish to get into a forum discussion on this with you because it is pointless and harmful (PM me if you wish). I would just say that pilots practice that mode and it is not as drastic/limited as you say.

I personally believe that this thread should be closed…..it has run its course…..those that are saddened and horrified have rightly given their thoughts and prayers for all those affected by now. All we are left with now is ‘bloke down pub’ type speculation. It serves no purpose as we have paid and qualified experts to come up with informed views/reports based on facts. By all means discuss it privately…..but now is the time for mourning, taking stock, reflection and investigation. I also worry that mindless journalism feeds on forums like this for so called ‘informed’ opinion. This is lacking.

It is sad that my first post in some time has to come in the aftermath of this tragedy.

This was a tragic and heartbreaking event, especially given that people not involved in the display were to lose their lives or be injured. My feelings and prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones or have injuries.

I love airshows and hate it that something that should be such fun could have such a profoundly terrible impact on wider society.

Given that the airshow season is in full swing, I for one, think that the CAA have taken a responsible step in prohibiting ‘high energy’ manoeuvres for civilian jets during overland displays. It is a sensible precaution until the official reports and investigations come to fruition. It may well be that they overturn the prohibition if evidence comes forth to suggest it is sensible to do so.

I will not speculate on the cause of this accident, I don’t think anyone should – least of all on a public forum.

This thread shows (as with many others) that aviation enthusiasts tend to be voluble on what they think, like and don’t like about everything, not just airshows. You can please all the people some of the time and some people all the time….life is a compromise.

In my profession we have risk assessments all the time and flight safety is a continuously improving process. This is also part of wider aviation. Lessons will come out of this tragic event.

Every time we have a tragedy, the thread descends into speculation which is often unhelpful and potentially harmful. It helps no one and can be incredibly upsetting to those with a closer involvement.

A separate thread or forum for flight safety might be better to discuss general points (i.e. airshow manoeuvres etc).

Make sure you are happy they are original…..look for amendment paste in pages, initials on the amendlist, good treasury tags that are old enuff, values of Pilots Notes depend on aircraft type. As they are orange Spitty ones they can be quite expensive – around £75 upwards
