It is amazing. There are still bargains to be had. A Lynx for 5k!! In 40 years time, some people may be saying….remember you could buy a Lynx for £5k – now that wont even buy a weeks shopping!

Roobarb – fwiw, in all my years of being privillaged to look closely at aircraft restorations, the Mk1 Spit work at Duxford is the most worthy of the titles ‘bench-mark’ and ‘world-class’. Andy’s book shows a glimpse of the amazing effort (in time, expertise and money) that has gone in to making P9374 (and N3200) worthy of being authentic, accurate and ground breaking works of art. Ok, I have found some simplification that I think might work. I have bought Bearings that are I/D 5mm, O/D 16mm and width 6mm. I have also bought oilite bearings I/D 14mm, O/D 20mm and width 14mm. I shall ream the oilite I/D to accept the ball race. Packers will be used to make sure the bearing is where I want it. The oilite bearing will be filed and worked to look like the original bearing case. I will get the canopy posts made as per drawings/original.
The bearings have cost £30 a set. This way, there is a little more gap which is good to allow for movement.

It came from one of the two Buccs that was involved in 1972 (from 809 Naval Air Squadron operating from HMS Ark Royal) in a 1,500 mile mission to show a military presence over British Honduras (modern day Belize) shortly before its independence, to deter a possible Guatemalan invasion

Yes Geoff, it is a double bearing race, that floats. The interesting thing is that there appears to be a collar within the I/D of the bearing, a la your bottom pic. I will print out drawings today,
I have found a drawing of the original post in my archive so should be a winner. Has roller bearing details too. Seems to indicate a compound bearing
