‘what brought that home to me in a more human way were the chinagraph ‘reminders’ that still adorn the radio operator’s position. The two old Transport Command radio call-signs MOTFJ (deleted) and MSFRB go back so many decades. From an ATC perspective I smiled at the crib of ICAO airfield location indicators listed:

EGUB Benson
EGUV Th…. (unreadable)
EGOV Valley
EGDG St Mawgan
EGKK Gatwick
EGXD (Unreadable but used to be Dishforth)
EGYM Marham
A little mystery to me (but doubtless known by a FP reader or two) is where EGUV was? My initial thought was Thorney Island but I know in the 1970s (at least) that Thorney was EGYT. I have a 1987 UK official listing but by then EGUV was no more.’
