I like the Buchon pix – the prop tip patch plane visualisation is very nice! Lots of energy in those tips!

Nice shots – that is inside the Weighbridge Hangar – the big grey hangar you see on your left as you come over the Beacon Hill on the A303 (heading West). The Vulcan Canopy trials are by the Blower Tunnel (powered by 4 x Merlins and still around)

I have had them a few years Ian. Love the Dunlop photo. I would like to organise a grip/yoke meet at Old Sarum or Cockpitfest or even both. This would need support and could well be very niche. Could be fun. I guess it might be an idea to start a new thread

I was not there. I also have not studied the official narrative. Sometimes it does not totally reflect the truth. I also do not believe in perfect hindsight.
I would tend to think that the drivers would not have done it had they thought that would happen. Seems obvious to us – but we were not there. Also, the quote Moggy put suggests a ‘procedure’ – that implies a common practice.

So you may be amazed that I am amazed by the use of the word ‘stupid’. I just find applying hindsight and such terms may not be totally fair?

We visited Metfield last year on our 8th AF pilgrimage. I would like to say it is a beautiful place, very tranquil. The truck drivers may have been many things – but not stupid. They were brave to drive those roads with bombs. They came a long way to lose their lives.

We had the benefit of satnav. Our full pilgrimage is over on WW2aircraft.net if anyone is interested. Ignore B17 sign! Put that down to being tired visiting so many airfields in 3 days!
