Do we expect the tabloid press to really research aircraft stories to the finite detail or are they catering to an audience that is probably 99% not aircraft enthusiast?
Both
Hurricane R4118 has its original weapons fitted – but inactive.
P-51 Twilight Tear in the US – owned by Ron Fagan had live firing (actual bullets) on the ground.
The P-40 at Wanaka mentioned above had aerial firing of blanks.
It would be possible to ground fire an armed up Spitfire in the US – just needs a motivated owner to fund it.
And yours truly’s acting debut! 😮
Shots of RR232/5632 in the SAAF service post WWII show it sporting a broad chord rudder. It may have been upgraded
Yes I guess so – I am now wondering when the earliest noted use of the broad rudder on a Mk.IX would have been?
Clearly the idea of early and late rudders needs to be put in context – I am looking at a 6 October roll out shot of an RK serial Spitfire at CBAF – sporting the original rudder shape.
Edit – Yikes yes thats me. It should be made clear that the application of the scheme was a co-operative effort between ourselves and Filton based Dave and Ricky who made a brilliant job of the base camou colours ready for our detailed bits 🙂 Quite a few stencils to apply in the new year – watch this space….
North Weald Flying services had one yeas ago, it re-fueled us a few times, red n yellow Shell colours if I remember correctly, driven by John who I think still does the fuel at NW. not sure if they still have it.
See my post #6 above….
The former (rather forlorn) example at N weald is now restored and driveable at Military Aviation Museum (Virginia, USA).
There is a mistake on that menu – it should read 3-course! 🙂
Likewise from me – magnificent effort and more than worthy of a few beers 🙂
Steve is not too well at the moment and i’m sure everyone here wishes him a speedy recovery.
Steve (Phillips)
Very much so!
I hope they bring back the VERY VERY popular Biggin Hill Airshow in 2013
with no announcement yet I think its sadly unlikely in 2013. It was always one of my favourite airshows and much missed.
Not impossible by any means but I would very much doubt that it happened in service as the Packard engine was in plentiful supply (was that not part of the reason for the late production of the 16 as we had agreements to purchase the engine from the US?) – there quite a lot of alterations to make to accomodate the RR engine, not least the inter-cooling system.
Happy Birthday RAFM! Whatever the opinions I know non of us would want to be without it. It left a big impression on my as a 15 year old visitor in 1980 – and being allowed inside the Lancaster (after much pleading).
Can’t help directly – but the info will be on a drawing(s) rather than a manual. We have recently done a set of stencils for Mosquito KA114 and the dH drawings were quite comprenesive.
Tank. Isn’t this a self propelled gun?
Mark
Its officially a tank destroyer – an SPG is a mobile artillery piece.
