The first three showed the scheme WK559 was in when she arrived at Sky Harbour and the start of the paint strip. The next few show the new paint going on, starting with primer then the silver base coat:

Thanks CC. Hope to see 959 sometime soon but not sure Ray will want to fly all the way to Oshkosh, be nice if he does though.

Thanks everyone for posting all these wonderful pics in response to this thread. The Hooks people seem to have made a fine job of the paintwork.

Here is a link to a thread on another forum that has some more pictures of 959. The colour balance on these correctly (on my monitor anyway) shows the shade of yellow on the fuselage roundels and wingleading edges.

    Ah. (I think!)

All the other CS hubs I’ve seen on piston engines go to fine pitch when they’re shut down … although those fitted on multi-engined aircraft have the feathering gear on them too. Is there a particular reason why PE’s hub goes coarse, or will it stay in fine pitch once the engine’s been run and shut down normally?

I understand this is just the initial set up (quite normal) as received from the overhaul shop and that once in use the blades would not revert to this setting on shut down.

And people let you fly their Spits? I’d have thought that was only for people with integrity.Thermal

Clearly you do not know him. May I suggest some moderation Thermal – this is no place for personal insults.

This photo is scanned from ‘Combat Colours – Number 2 – The Hawker Hurricane 1939 to 1945 in RAF, Commonwealth and FAA Service’, by H C Bridgewater, 2001. The photo is uncredited but there is also an excellent three-view colour profile in the book – well worth buying.

It never was (G-SUZY being a Taylor Monoplane! :p )

    Re-registered from G-SUSY to G-CDHI on 31/1/05

Strangely – thats what I thought but I bowed to the better knowledge of Alan Brown of Pilot magazine

Alan, time for an erratum in next months issue!
