Corsair and P-40 are at Ardmore, NZ now. La-9 is on the way. The Spitfire MH434 remains at Duxford as does the Mustang operated by OFMC.

Dave T – did you do it?
Does the webmaster block out the word aeroplane or only when it has a capital letter at the front – Aeroplane?

…and not fot the last time either. The very same Buchon received similar damage in an incident at Duxford during filming of ‘Pearl Harbor’ a couple of years ago!
Nope – it was at Lydd.
I loved the ‘Detroit Miss’ scheme too and was baffled at the re-paint until Col. Anderson flew the aircraft over Leiston and it all made sense. This was such a historic moment, probably the last time a WWII ace flew over the UK in the type of aircraft he fought in.

JDK, you are wrong (If I understood correctly the long word with ‘counter…’ at the beginning ;)). There was a Fighter Command signal sent in late June/early July (if my memory serves me) defining the white bands to be applied on noses and tails; then another one a few days later, making it clear to everyone that the white stripes on tail should be across not along the tailplane;V.
Thats an impressivley long memory you have there VoyTech. I sense you and JDK are actually in agreement on the issue that the so-called Dieppe invasion stripes were not actually applied for the August 19th operation and that most, if not all, aircraft that were adorned with them earlier that Summer had them removed prior to Operation Jubilee.
Hi Cestrian,
These are fabulously interesting images, thank you for posting them. Can you tell us more about how you gained access to the yard and what became of it. It has been mentioned several times that the yard was ‘cleared’. What did that entail and what became of the airframes?
Thanks in anticipation.
I heard the 190 has finally flown. Any report/links anyone?
The CAA will issue a notice waiving the requiremnt to display a civil registration on an historic aircraft after a succesful appplication. There are rules associated with this concession including the historic accuracy of the paint scheme and the necessary avoidance of anything that could bring the represented service in to disrepute. The amount of information requested in support of the application varies from aircraft to aircraft. Strangely there is no such facility in the USA
Re: Tropical filters ommited – why?

Hello chaps,
I was just wondering why modern restorations of warbirds don’t seem to ever have tropical filters fitted.
TIA
Very simple – its because they are very ugly and do nothing for performance. Coupled with the fact that they would have to be specially fabricated means that they are just never done.
These factors have overuled the historic accuracy factor.
