Thanks Mark 12, helpful as always. The prop motor job was obviously painted by someone else who knew what they were doing.

    Hi DazDaMan,

Can I quote you on this, do you think “I’m no expert, but I don’t think even the most talented aeromodeller (which I am not) could get a wartime Spit’s colour scheme “exactly” right” would be a good thread starter?

It would certainly get the aeromodelling boys to their keyboards!

It was more authentic looking before the re-paint (despite the undercarriage angle). There seems to be some kind of curse with many Spitfire replicas that prevents them from being painted correctly. The flying ‘Spitfire Mk 26’ replicas in the new edition of Pilot magazine also have similar problems, including mixing early fin flashes with type C roundels, perhaps the Aussie manufacturrs should speak to some of you aeromodelling enthusiasts about paint schemes. After solving all the design problems and getting these aircraft certified and on the market putting the right shades of paint in the right places should be the easiest part of the process. Shame.

Janie, what a flattering introduction! Welcome to the forum by the way.

Yes I am afraid this is a very unfortunate lost oportunity to paint a Spitfire correctly. I always point out that it costs exactly the same amount of money to make an accurate paint job as a bad one. The only difference is taking a little more time in the research, something which many people (some of them on this forum) will do free of charge anyway.

To return to the question in hand:
The grey looks ok but the green does not seem quite right (it is difficult to be sure because of the glossy paint though).

The codes should be parallel sided.

    The serial number is missing.

The lines of the camouflage are too linear. Although not a hard and fast rule (and as an example only) the typical Spitfire scheme of this period had a distinctive ‘bump’ on the starboard side below the windscreen, this has not been reproduced.

On the plus side the roundels look correctly positioned and the correct size and proportion (unlike MH434 at the moment).

    Enough of my ranting.

RAF Valley, 1976. Slept in a car park. Conditions have improved slightly since then.

Duxford not the centre of the universe? This is a shock, hard to believe. Someone tell me this is not true.

    Hi Andrewman,

Just in response to your third point. The core subject of this ‘historic aviation’ forum is historic aviation. Many of us consider this to be aircraft around the World War II period and perhaps also (for some) the very early jets. The AFM forum on the Key Publishing website specialises in the subject of modern military hardware. I would not expect to get any helpful responses to a Spitfire or Tempest posting there. This may explain the responses you have had to your (and Neilly’s) Tornado and Harrier questions. No offence is intended.
