She is magnificent. I did not get to look in the cockpit but everything else on show was superbly crafted and very well finished and painted. The reserve Grand Champion, P-51 ‘Geraldine’ was also improved and looked great again but I think the judges preffered to go for a new restoration.
hi Scull,
Only two this year 😡 The other one was the one in the accident in 98 (not the Cavvanaugh one obviously). Howard Pardues Bearcat was also back for the first time since then.
I will bring the other shots on a CD his weekend.
Here is a detail shot of Gary Koh’s (spelling?) Corsair:
These airframes (crashed and damaged ones) are still so valuable that it is inevitable that they will be re-cycled. Another example, though happily not from a fatal accident, is the Spit 14 VA-P (forgotten the serial number), owned by Sir Tim Wallis and heavily damaged in his unfortunate take off accident on 1st January 1996. I believe it is under restoration in NZ.
I did, its tempting but I think I had better stick with new pics. I have some of the Mustangs at Oshkosh this past week if anyone is interested.
Hi BC,
I shot my Oshkosh pics on a higher resolution and then used a photo software product (MGI Photosuite) to make them smaller. I ‘saved as’ and selected a reduced jpeg quality in the save as box. This does not seem to affect the quality of the image that much but gets it below the 100k image. I still find the physical size of my pics is very large (see ‘Grasshopper’) so any help would be appreciated.
Sorry it took so long;)
Thanks everyone. I will now boldly go.
Yep, they have one in the museum on the island. I have a pic somewhere but until I get the hang of attaching them….
Still trying. Can you see your picture in preview mode or do you get an icon?
Thanks Black 6, I will give it a try. I was amazed how quickly the great moderator or webmaster pulled this thread. Does this mean they are actually reading all this stuff?
Many of us would love to. Just can’t figure out how to post the pics!
Nice one Black 6. How about a reply to the ‘How do you post pictures’ post as you clearly have this envied skill?
I love those ‘aeroplane in a barn stories’. It would be great if it was true (the plane not the barn!).
Had a chat with Janie yesterday…..
That pilot must be b***y deafened, no headsight, helmet etc!
Good point about the Concorde. At least EAA Oshkosh had a good excuse a couple of years ago when they did the same thing.
