I’m pushing to try to make that happen – but we will just have to see.
The Spitfire type displayed at Squires Gate was Seafire LA447 now airworthy in th USA.
No – it was VP441, a Seafire 47.
I think Firebird was referring to what the guys from WW2 would do to fix a broken engine rather than Sally B’s situation.
.
He was (in response to Gliderspits’s comments), although he was being slightly sarcastic – in the nicest possible way :).
Presumably Gliderspit was thinking more about the pressure of war and poor weather conditions under which many B-17 engines must have been changed on exposed East Anglian airfields in WWII – not an enviably task. As Firebird said, their only advantage over modern day counterparts was their ability to drive over to their units engine store and simply sign out a brand new factory built replacement!
A minor point in the big scheme of things, but I was surprised to see the return of SM832…
That may well be a typo as Christophe owns PR19 PS890.
I hope the yak 3 is flying at legends i think it looks fantastic.
Its booked (and the pilot is checked out) so as far as I know it will be.
Griffon powered Spitfire over Hatfield at 13.32.
I have therefore dropped an e-mail to the Station Historian to see if the gallery can be restored.
I do hope they can.
Sweet looking machine. Will it be at L….Oh allright, I’ll get me coat.
Well yes it will actually (The Yak-3).
There were a number of variations in the shade of green used by the various manufacturers and also the extent to which it was used. For example Westland loved the stuff and painted, for example, much more extensive internal Spitfire/Seafire areas with it compared to Supermarine/CBAF built aircraft.
So as usual – no hard and fast rules!
badges gallery that used to be on the old RAF Marham website?
Ta.
I spent ages recently trying to find that as it had some great artwork on it. I would like to know where to find it too…..
Great day for spotting today
0845 , Mustang heading east
Crikey – some people like to get up early for their warbird ‘fix’!
Could someone please tell me what the story is in regards to the Wooden blade antenna? as I know both his other P51 and T6 also have these
They are all wood – this and some others are simply un-painted as they look nice that way!
Thanks for posting the pics Y11F – I saw the cockpit of this aircraft when it was still in the workshop at Eye – an absolute masterpeice & 100% stock!
thanks VVS… that clears it up nicely but bloody hell have you been chewing a dictionary??:D
No – but he did write the book 😉
Hi Janie
Because I thought you had something to do with W.C.S
She does – but only by marriage 🙂
