Nice shot – shows the ‘proper’ Ocean Grey to good effect too ๐
Why would anyone offer to exchange a ‘fully restored’, albeit static Mk V for a static (unrestored) Mk XVI? ๐ฎ
I take it the blanks over the exhaust ports are to keep moisture and foreign objects out? I was not aware that the Hurricane had a fuel tank between the engine and the cockpit, I always thoought the Hurricane’s fuel was all carried in wing tanks. Oh well, that’s something new learned.
First question – yes. Second question -nearly right, the majority of fuel is carried in the centre section tanks, either side of the cockpit. The fuselage fuel tank between cockpit and engine is officially termed the ‘reserve tank’ and holds 28 gallons of fuel.
Not quite old enough to have had any personal dealings with them you see.
๐ฎ You dont have to be that old Mike!
Any news about the covering, anyone?
Its still Irish linen! ๐
what an extraordinary post (#1). These aircraft are largely privately owned and the owner can, within the law, do whatever he likes with his property. I have lost count of the number of aircraft I have worked on (voluntarily) that have been subsequently sold by their owners. But its just part of life in this business, something that if you volunteer your time you have to accept as being a probability. In fact, come to think of it I have woked on some aircraft for several different owners, most recently Spitfire BL628, so just because the aircraft is sold it does not mean that your input necessarily ends.
I do this for the aircraft, to preserve history, simple as that. Historic aircraft change hands, just as simple.
Thank you for the kind and helpful responses received so far ๐
This is a general question, what is the purpose of the yellow leading edges?
Identifies an RAF aircraft in a head on situation (and stops you walking in to the wing at night).
PM sent ๐
It looks fantastic. Tell the nit pickers to go and buy their own planes!
I dont see too many ‘nit-pickers’ here – there is nothing wrong with asking polite questions about any scheme, its not beyond discussion. Yes, in this case the scheme was very thoroughly researched and several contributers to this thread were involved in that research and with providing detailed markings and colour information to TFC. They always take the research side of scheme application very seriously as has been shown in numerous superb restorations over many years.
the black stripes on the back looked a bit wonky, were pics taken before the stripes were completely unmasked?
Look perfect to my eye – in these roll out shots http://fighter-collection.com/pages.php
Methinks you’ve kinda mis-read my last post there, Mark V…
I did indeed – but lets leave it there as a shameless plug for the Haynes Lancaster book!
….which isn’t a Sea Fury, it’s a Fury ISS.
Now come on Lee – your splitting hairs – thats why I used the word ‘representative’ ๐ I know you!
RNHF’s VR930 is temporarily grounded awaiting a re-built Centaurus, their new T.20 has yet to fly. This leaves John Bradshaws aircraft as the sole currently airworthy representative.
Tease!
I wonder if it’s the one I’m thinking of…
It certainly will!! It will, for example, mean that the Flug Werke FW-190 will get a permit to fly in the UK based on itยดs German permit.
I am not so sure you are correct.
