Fascinating – in my lifetime (born 1965) the asking price of a Chipmunk (then £2,350, now £36,000) has risen by a factor of 15. The same comparison with the Spitfire yields a factor of around 300!
We’ve had big flypasts of Spitfires wouldn’t it be good to have just one of a squadron’s worth of Hurricanes at legends?
It would – although you would have to gather every airworthy Hurricane on the planet to achieve it.
How thorough has the restoration been? i.e does it have working guns, original radio etc?
It was as thorough as they come – a complete ground up re-build as shown on the various photos that Tom W has posted here over the years. Working guns 😮 Not sure there are any warbirds with working guns, some certainly have replica or de-activated weaponry.
The restoration work I have seen on this aircraft has been exceptional – complete with wing ammo magazines and a very detailed cockpit.
Not sure about the font style on the registration, is it authentic to 1941?
Cue Mark V 😀
You rang m’lord?
No its completely wrong 😮
Perhaps they need to replace it with these? 😉
was this the MK. 1 that was airworthy a few years ago, or is this a totally new restoration?
Both – it was airworthy some years ago but has had a complete restoration.
Minimal markings.
Pity – they were supplied all the info by Clive Denney I was told. They make a nice finishing touch so long as you do not go overboard with them.
they may mark the fuel tank capacities as they sort that out. they were measuring fuel gallons by what was pumped from the fuel truck at the start of the day.
Original wing tanks: 39.5 US Gallons, Reserve (Fuselage) tank 33.5 US Gallons. Oil: 10.75 US Gallons & 1.75 US Gallons air space.
Hurri looks lovely – but what about the stencils?
Which aircraft are they for Paul? The CHASSIS EMERGENCY LOWERING plate looks a little ‘square’ compared with the Mk V, IX & XI type which gets fitted to the edge of the IFF destruct button mounting bracket.
Still going strong!
And the Lanc is doing well too 😀
Happy birthday Bruce, its much better having a four in front of your age 😮
seems colours are OK, but roundels are wrong on the die-cast?
What do you not like about the roundels?
And here is a really rare shot, D-FEHD and G-HUNN at Roundwood, June 1990 – we were operating both aircraft for the IAT Battle of Britain Salute airshow at nearby Boscombe Down.
Here is a shot of G-SUSY (as she was then) at her Roundwood base, summer 1990.
I am sure there was something like this at Cosford last summer (when we were there for the airshow) and consisted of mobile installations each side of the runway.
I might be talking out of a hole in my neck when I say this, but I am sure that the US military still claim possession of any ship or aircraft wreck (or part of).
The US Navy claims that. The Air Force does not generally do so in cases of aircraft lost prior to 1961 (apart, I believe, from aircraft lost at sea, so this beach wreck may be interesting if it was below high water and may be considered to be ‘in the sea’).
Really? I was under the impression it was a C not a G
Its a G model Mike.
