Hello EN830, The Lancaster was LM672 HW:V diverted to Rattlesden on 18 Nov. 44. There was a thread on the forum recently about it . This aircraft spent its life on No.100 Sqdn and was Struck off Charge 10 Jul 1945.
B-17G 297936 was with the 708BS coded Y on charge 28/6/44 transferred to Italy 29/5/45 and salvaged Italy 14/1/46.
Thanks to Bomberflight for the splendid B-17G updates. I hope the grey undersides will be darker than the previous finish as Neutral Grey was a much darker hue on wartime aircraft, and will look more authentic.
By the way this is no criticism of the work but important to get it right at this stage of the proceedings.
Battle Formation . Great shots of Coltishall Javelins/Hunters of No 74 Sqdn . Interviews with Jimmy Dell,Ken Goodwin,Johnny Johnson,Tuck and Bader.
Luton Central Development Cat No 6549 has an airshow at Henlow c.1965.
Cat No 7980 shows a Avian and Robinson Redwing of Hillman Airways presume shot at Maylands near Romford.
Nice film of Perkins Gliding Club shot at Polebrook circa 1960. Cat No 5997 about 6mins 23 secs in called “Plane Sailing” showing the T-21 and Tutor being winch launched.
Also short clip showing Claude Grahame White getting married at Chelmsford in 1912,just put his name in search.
Thank you UEA for providing this many hours of happy viewing and its National Lottery funded.
Steve, nothing like venting your enthusiasm, good research so far .
Two other local possibilities both Wellingtons 15/12/41 15OTU R1607 Altimeter u/s flew into hillside near Hampstead Norris. 19/12/41 OADU Z8364 Engine failure feathered wrong engine which stopped. Unable to restart hit trees in forced landing Hermitage.
Need more precise locations to deduce if this is the crash site.
Thanks people for the help. SR386 is the only one I have not found, managed to compile the others . My interest is in No.100 Group aircraft and filling in the gaps of knowledge in “Confound and Destroy” by Martin Streetly a benchmark book. Steve Bonds new book”Special Ops Liberators” is a great history of the RAF B-24s of No.223 Squadron operating from Oulton.
