    “50 Glorious Years” by Arthur Pearcey on page 128 has 2 good photo’s of that nose on TS423.

    Megalith, I spent 920 hours instructing in ATC Slingsby Venture’s. Yes it had drawback’s like poor climb performance on a hot day and low propellor clearance taking off/landing. However it was an excellent teaching aircraft and introduced many ATC cadet’s to flying.

    For willip, In the post-war years L.O.T the Polish airline used some UC-78’s to establish airline routes in Poland. The ex 351st USAAF Bomb Group ” hack “from Polebrook became SP-LEB in 1947.

    Ann Welch ex ATA and made an enormous contribution to gliding in this country. I have her signed autobiography “Happy To Fly”.

    Thanks gents and Newforest for the link . The Leuchars shot is superb in capturing the era. Thousands of these old ATC caravans must have been disposed of at the end of the war, but hardly get a mention or recorded for posterity. Then there was new builds in the sixties,which again little recorded in print or camera.

    When the RAF disposed of it’s Neptune’s(yes that’s a chapter in RAF history you don’t hear much about)he ferried alot of them to Argentina and South america.
