The ‘last edited…’ worked when editing my last post, having not worked earlier this evening, but still unable to post photos.
Now it’s not working again????? This post has been edited twice.
Very strange, the ‘last edited…’ seems to work sometimes
I give up. 😡 😡
Fingers crossed
Info from ‘Last take off’ by Colin Cummings’
17-Mar-52 WG871 Vampire FB9 60 Sqn (location) Not located in Malaya.
This aicraft was No3 in a formation on a night cross country sortie. It became separated from the others and was instructed to return to base. The pilot subsequently called that he thought he had lost a drop tank and was having trouble controlling the aircraft. Later he made a further radio call asking for a homing but nothing further was heard from the pilot and despite reports of an aircraft being heard crashing into the jungle, no trace of the aircraft or it’s pilot was ever found.
Flight Sergeant Tadeusz Wojciechowski
Let’s hope that the pilot’s remains can be recovered for burial. I’m sure the family will be pleased to know that he has been found after all this time.
Have the MOD been informed?
Geoff.
I’ve just had two goes at posting a photo & failed both times. Have been able to post photos okay previously. I edited a post of mine this evening & also noticed that the ‘last edited…’ didn’t appear. 😡
No go I’m afraid. 😡
The curse of the missing attachment strikes again! One more go.
Andy P,
Many thanks for your kind words – the cheque’s in the post. I was there too Sunday, helping to run the museum (I’m also editor of the museum newsletter).
For anyone thinking of visiting the museum, we close for the winter at the end of September, so Sunday the 28th will be the last chance for you to come this year (museum is only open on Sundays). Parties of 20 or more are welcome at other times however. See our website at http://www.shoreham-aircraft-museum.co.uk and of course the article in the September 2003 issue of FlyPast for more info.

Saw a paperback copy of the book I mentioned in my last post in W.H. Smiths today!
If you can get hold of a copy of ‘The Most Dangerous Enemy’ by Stephen Bungay (Aurum) (ISBN 1 85410 721 6), there are a few passages re Charles Woods-Scawen, the brother with the poor eyesight. He was nicknamed Wombat on 43 sqdn ‘because he looked a bit like a rabbit, and was blind as a bat’. According to this book, Tony ‘had TB as a child and ever since his eyesight had been impaired. He had got into the RAF by memorising the eye-test card.’ In this book, he is referred to as Tony, which was his middle name.

Damn, oh well, never mind. It was worth a go.
Mark12,
Thanks for the info. These tie-ups are always useful, narrowing things down by elimination. Just wish I could get to the PRO & look up the 500 sqdn ORB, though I’m not sure if they would list the sorties flown by the squadron. 41 sqdn certainly didn’t in their ORB in 1956. Would be nice if they mentioned the naming of the aircraft, and which a/c carried what name- bet they don’t though.
