I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago now at Sywell whilst I was assisting the judges at an aerobatic competition. (My father was his assistant – was helping a Concorde pilot.) He was an incredible gentleman and quite a character.
R.I.P. Mr. Blake, it was a pleasure and honour to have met you.

:diablo: You would think they would park the airliners all at the same angle – most untidy…:diablo:

As far as I can remember I believe the MoD often have a prearranged agreement and a visit is recorded when the crew check in and any fees will be forwarded to the appropriate contracts branch.

There are in fact two ex RAAF machines – note one has a 3 and the other a 6 above the cockpit windows.
Shame to see them is such a state, and the V-tail Bonanza too, but they are the owners responsibility no one else’s at the end of the day. 🙁

I think that was my first Farnborough… I was really really young though!

If you come by road you will be just as welcome and the cafe should be open and plenty of talk and socialising.

Cheers for the info. Hope she has a good future as she appeared in very good condition. No fading of markings or anything.

    A message from our Chairman…

VINTAGE AIRCRAFT CLUB FLY IN SEASON STARTS THIS WEEKEND

A quick reminder (if the weather forecast hasn’t already dropped a hint!) that the first VAC fly in of the year takes place this Saturday.

Don’t let the forecast winds put you off. If visiting via road, there will be an equally warm welcome in Sywell’s Pilots Mess. Park by the museum and we will arrange that someone is manning the access gate to allow members to get airside.

Past the control tower, the “Biggles Biplane” hangar will be open for inspection of the BE-2c replica, Fokker Triplane and other vintage types under restoration, while adjacent hangars may be opened too, allowing a close look at rare aircraft such as Miles Messenger G-AKIN, which has been based continuously at Sywell since new!

Visitors by air will of course receive reduced landing fees on submission of a VAC membership card.

Further dates for your vintage diary are:

Sunday12 February Valentine Rally Old Sarum
Saturday 10 March VAC Annual Dinner Littlebury Hotel, Bicester
Sunday 25 March Spring Meeting Turweston
    Saturday14 April Daffodil Rally Fenland

More details are available on the club website: http://www.vintageaircraftclub.org.uk

    Look forward to seeing you!

    Chairman
