Hi guys may not post much but still nosing around.

Bicester is a wonderfully “preserved” 1930’s base – Grade II listed I think or at least trying to be. All grass too. Very little modification despite USAF presence during GW1.

The club have a web-site that is under development and a form can be found on there – it is at http://www.vac.flyer.co.uk/vac-membership.htm
It is £15 per year and includes a quarterly A4 magazine and information about various club only events during the year…

Ozplane – sadly it won’t work like that here – if it was the case I doubt there had been as much hassle but who knows…
All we can doo is sit and patiently wait the outcome now the letters have been written.

I too had trouble – felt like my arm was cut off!!!
I tried to get in from a search to get in and it came up with a message it was closed due to maintenance…
I still can’t get into the Historic bit either…

IIRC, I’ve seen a picture (not sure if same one) of a Lancaster on one that was taken at Sywell where some repairs were carried out during wartime.

A quick search on
http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/usafserials.html
has revealed nothing as to the ultimate fate. No mention of export either.

F-84E-1-RE 49-2034 from the same batch however crashed in centre of the village of Beck after hitting a parked B-50 at Mildenhall 29 Aug 1951. The pilot was killed. (information from source above)

An absolutely amazing thread that I have enjoyed following this morning since Kev35 brought this back to our attention and I’ve logged on.
I’ve found this thread quite touching and moving. It’s nice to know that people still care in this day and age and I admit that every time I go into a churchyard which military grave I always stop and read the inscriptions and pause for a moment in silent tribute.
This thread has also been made more real as it is local to me at the moment (I used to work at UH and still currently live in the area) and in two short weeks (all being well) I’m moving out to the Norfolk/Suffolk area. (start new job at “LN”)

Absolutely cracking – many menories there…
A reminder as well as how popular the 125 was as a biz-jet.

Also the old support vehicles that you just took for granted – can’t be many left as not deemed to be a preservation item were they…?

It’s just day to day that is affected by these rules.

Under the planning permission allowed for the airfield the British Grand Prix has been exempted and they can operate effectively unrestricted…
This actually went to high court IIRC and was won.
The airborne visitors seem to be falling off every year for the Grand Prix anyway…

The visitor wouldn’t be allowed in… They will always run to less rather than spot on or just over…

We heard the tower turn some people away at the VAC do just to preserve the total. At least one was turned away as it was a microlight – very nicely exchanged between the tower and the pilot and for us on the ground upsetting that people should be turned away…

I was on a training course with work and at 11 the fire alarm sounded briefly.
All stopped and fell silent for the two minutes until the alarm sounded briefly once again and the course resumed.
I always find it a moving time.
It makes me humble that I was lucky enough to know my granfather who served whilst others my age have not been so lucky.
Thank you to all servicemen and women whatever nationality that paid the ultimate price.

I tend to agree with Flood the coverage of what has been (often literally) unearthed is as good as non-existant these days. The sort of coverage in Flypast has changed over the years…
I like the amount of news that appears in Flypast but I prefer the wider range of topics in Aeroplane but then I’m not as heavily into WW2 stuff as seems to be the regular content in Flypast. Can’t say I’m a big fan though of some of the recent themes appearing in Aeroplane as part of their new look.
However I find this forum an invaluable place to find out information and witness some stunning photos. Cheers all.

I think I still have a copy as well… Great book.
Read Machine gunners a few times too (think I’ve a copy of that too!). I think there was either a prequal or a sequal to the MG but I can’t recall if this is right or my mind just playing tricks on me…
