I quite agree they do represent someone’s last few moments but they are here and I think they have been posted with respect and not gratuity.

They are a mere snapshot in time and what’s to say that some of the photos of the soldiers fighting on the ground or sailors on deck aren’t their last moment before they were killed. Its just we can see these moments and as we know that they were in the aircraft with very little or no chance of surviving?

We will remember them.

The first Bell aircraft is the Bell XP-77-BE. 43-34916.

Crashed 2nd October 1944 after entering an inverted spin. Pilot baled out

Its a Bombay.
Yes it did serve out in Africa and I believe and in both roles you listed.

Photo4 – The flying boat is the Supermarine Type 381 Seagull. The last amphibious flying boat they designed and built.

Not sure of the true type but I’d say it was at Radlett for an SBAC display – which would mean a look in John Blake’s book on the SBAC’s displays may be worth a look.

Great photos Stieglitz.

Nice to see these types well cared for. My type of aircraft… The “offices” are immaculate.

Would be nice to have Viima back over here for at least one of our VAC do’s as it was a regular visitor in the 70-80’s and some considered her a bit of a flagship.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

Hi all after the most frustrating day on Saturday with a fly-in that wasn’t…
(highlights included a visiting Fokker S-11, Yak-52 and Stearman and flypast by a P-51 which if they hadn’t have closed the airfield…)

Please Please write to the council expressing your support for flying and our events at Turweston.

The fight has taken another twist with the [B}NIMBY employing a PI to watch the airfield EVERY DAY! There were TWO observers at the weekend at different point on AND off the airfield watching the traffic![/B]

The airfield and the VAC need your support. All our calendar for the year is effectively suspended….

The Sentry replaced the Shackleton…:(
The AEW3 version you mentioned had problems in the technology department and a number were stored at Abingdon until they were scrapped. I Think only a cockpit section survives and that doesn’t have the lump on the end!
Saw an AEW3 display at Hatfield many moons ago. Very graceful despite the lumpy bits!

As for the other stuff – well what goes around comes around eh?
