enough for a rebuild or totally destroyed?
Bog + Magnesium alloy construction = no show at Legends :diablo:
The Whirly is a bit of a Holy Grail on this forum (with TSR-2 why/what ifs) but unless one pitches out of a (moisture controlled) barn somewhere, I think its going to be tiny bits and pieces.
To “just remove them” would bring C of G and other engineering problems so it was probably easier to keep them.

Very good point, I’ll stick to my office chair ! – I never even thought of that !
Piece Of Cake, Bridge, Spitfire “I’ll do it…”
Fantastic, but think of the contributions to film and TV work as well, their work will live on forever into the future with DVD, Blu-ray etc. Air America, Empire Of The Sun, endless….
Sadly missed, but they will entertain for years to come.
we’ve had a few threads like this over the years, speaking from the utter safety and warmth of my office chair (where nobody is shooting at me…) I think its a reasonable question to ask about any turrets, especially with the .303 gun. I don’t know if they gave a comfort factor to the crew, and the gunners as look outs were surely of value? Then again how much higher/faster could a bomber go with a few less crew and no turrets, enough to avoid JU-88’s etc? The Halifax mid upper with 4 guns must have had quite a concentration of fire, but still .303 which would bounce off many night fighters and had limited range.
Very nice
very impressive, and thanks for sharing.
if you get in touch with Spitfireman (Baz) from the forum, I’m sure you could swap stories, tips, hints etc.
Brabazon
large parts of the Brabazon were said to have been used in the construction of a school,
jeez that was a long time ago..all i can remember is one episode where some **** goofed up and the fitter starting up lost his hands?
I remember that, he was spitting cake everywhere telling the story while in hospital – one of those images that just stuck with me. “C” flight, “special flight” ? I remember the models being on Blue Peter or something as well.
I also remember “Squadron”….. with minutes of archive footage of Jaguars turning into Phantoms etc!
You can, of course, borrow it from the library but you won’t get a note of thanks for buying it from one of the best writers of fiction about the RAF that there’s been.
Well, it gave me a kick anyway.
Tom
Same here, I exchanged a few e-mails with the man a while ago, I sent him some basic “fan mail” and he was polite and “chatty” in reply, my book is signed with a personal message to me, I’m chuffed with that !
OK, if you are forced to go to War, who’s side are you going? We WILL win this war, we WILL support the US and the other nations in doing so.
The enemy of the Planet is the anti-west terrorist. The west are running this world, like it or not. I’ve been around it enough times to see that these sideline belief systems very quickly get forgotten once a bit of civilisation/money is available. This leaves the extremists hanging onto the old ways and blaming the west for the corruption of their life (YAWN!). It is in fact the East that pulls the western ways in, we don’t force it on them.
who is “we” and who would force me and how? (Blair, Brown, Bush with the axis of evil ?)

the bad guys have guns so the morally correct need and deserve bigger guns.
“bad” and “morally correct” is in the eye of the beholder, and the “bad” guys you refer to believe that their god is on their side and our side, or the “west” or however you chose to label it are the infidel.
Just getting “bigger guns” means that the other side will as well, its called an arms race and humanity has been there, done that at massive cost in lives and finance and to the detriment of other needs such as health etc.

Avro Canada ‘GOR.339’ Arrow Development ?
Bell D.188 VTO.
Convair B.58 Hustler
Douglas B.66 Destroyer
Republic F.105 Thunderchief
Martin B.68 delta (GOR.154)
North American A3J Vigilantie & Retaliator
I’ve seen a large scale model of an F-105 in an RAF white scheme (at Midland Museum I think?) it looks impressive.
It does inded.
I enjoyed it, a good read but don’t expect anything to come close to ‘Piece Of Cake’
I got a copy from the local library, £15 for any paperback, let alone one with such bloody awful cover art and badly presented blurb on the back cover is a lot of money indeed.
It is a lot I agree, it was an impluse treat for myself. My view (when explaining the cheque stub to the Mrs…) was £15 for however many hours entertainment is good value. I’ve paid £60 for a dull football match, £30 for the family to sit through naff films (Horton Gives a Hoot…. daddy didn’t give a **** !).
I read the first 70 odd pages last night, it moves along swiftly and while I think “Piece Of Cake” is his best by far, this is well worth a read and I’m looking forward to getting back into it tonight.
These were the days when they would stick a Meteor in the butts and fire the cannon to impress the crowd. There was also a demo by the reverse thrust Hunter.
can anybody else hear a million and one health and safety inspectors biting down on their clip boards in shock :diablo::diablo::dev2: ?
