The quality of what you are watching also depends on the initial capture as Ren Frew says, when the original programme is made. the US based channels like “FX” show a lot of NTSC based shows that look ok in HD, the colours can still look like the they were painted on the screen by a 5 year old!
Sky Sports was the clincher for me, the cricket and football there have image clarity that take your breath away and non of the “blocky” images that you see (especially on any ITV channel where they compress everything) while surfing last night I jumped from Sky Sports to ITV 4 to check the scores and it was like having cling film put across the TV.
The blu-ray is also worth it, especially now the cost of the players and discs is coming down. Or like me, you buy the kids a PS-3, get brownie points from the Mrs for splashing out, and then use it to watch blu-rays!

Unless I’m mistaken, it was the one in my post, MK210, with a scantily-clad lady all the way down the port-side engine cowling.
Thats the one, sorry, was replying to the first post for over an hour while on a conference call at work and didn’t see the second post !
A Spitfire IX was tested with similar wing-mounted drop tanks, but without the books in front of me, I can’t offer any more info.
IIRC there was also a Mk-IX that was stuffed to the gills with internal fuel as a test, it didn’t perform that well BUT, at some stage the engine cowling (with artwork) was on a wall at Boscome Down (details at home in a book:mad:) don’t you hate it when your job gets in the way of sharing really important stuff !
That said, somebody on here will know more then me and my library !
P-47 in Europe, P-38 Japan
The Mustang was a fine aircraft but like the whole Spitfire/Hurricane, Lancaster/Halifax, B-17/B-24, Corsair/Hellcat discussions, the “winner” tends to be as inaccurately depicted as the looser is.
The P-47 was equal to the Luftwaffe equipment on the whole and the later versions matched the P-51 for range and did a lot of the leg work that was needed before the “D” version (generally credited with beating the Luftwaffe) came into service in mid 1944 (June IIRC?)
In the far east, the P-38 was favoured by the USAAF and was credited with the kills to back that judgement. The RAF use of the Alison engine Mustang was of value, but not a “war winner” and the Merlin engined versions later used were also of use, but again they would have gotten by without them.
words fail me, they utterly fail me……..
£7k a year to send out their own gumpf, but they’ll charge Soldiers families to send them some “comfort” from home.
How typical, how venal, how vile
yeah, that sums it up better than I could.
It says Europe only here, but how long before the whole thing goes. It stinks.

Coming home to find my ten year old, while mucking about on the chair in the study managed to spin the chair back hard and into the display cabinet where some of my die-cast models are. A Sea King, Victor, Harrier and Beaufighter all now undergoing repair while his mum has taken him out of the house for a while !
All fixable it seems put suitable punishment will follow :diablo: Might even get a guilt trip to the model zone from the Mrs out of it…..
I did use all of the swear words though, well, the ones that channel 4 approve of !

One engine had been salvaged from the lake in NVA times by a military team, but the normal sensitivity and media interest applied to such sites nowadays was unthinkable in the DDR.
Even when I was last at Peenmunde in 94 access to the whole site was restricted by the evocation of unexploded ordnance, despite the NVA range only occupying the northern tip. Things may have changed since.
Thank you – I hadn’t even thought about the DDR element, thanks
This do?
Not wishing to appear callus, but that doesn’t seem like a large piece, could there really be unrecovered remains there or is it simply because the bodies were in wreck at some stage?
Finished this today, its enjoyable and worth the self indulgent treat.
It got me digging into the V-Force at the Cuban Missile Crisis (the book says that the V-Force didn’t disperse, I thought they did)
If you see this around, I would recommend it.
It doesn’t look bad but there is a long way to go before it becomes ‘useable’
Baz
but you’ll be Ok for Legends though ? :diablo:
I’ll get my coat……
