I might be wrong but the circulation of the fortnightly Commando comics may be on an upward trend as I have noticed over the last couple of years that the number of copies WH Smith have on their shelfs has increased considerably.
I think part of the reason for their continued survival is that DC Thompson do their own printing and so can fit niche titles into slack points in their print runs so that helps to keep the price down and the profitably up. Long may it continue. 🙂
This IMO can only be good news – far fetched as they may be in some cases (Himmel, Englander! etc) I think they are a vivid link to a key period in history and if they continue to fire any interest in the period (and also encourage a bit of basic hero worship from the young for the soldiers/sailors/airmen of the time) then I’m all for it. Its also a nostalga trip for the likes of me as well!
Gloss-smosh…. hats off to all involved, she is obviously loved, well looked after and in safe hands, congrats to lightninglady99 and all involved I say.
Impossible to say without seeing it and what the intent and content is. My mother has survived two bouts of breast cancer, stomach cancer killed my father at age 67, 5 days off sick from work in over 30 years with the same company, ill June, very ill July, hospital August (a week after being sent home after a GP referral) , into the Hospice November, died December.
If there is anything there that raises money for research and supports the people with loved ones with cancer, then it can be only good. I can’t imagine that a well established company like haynes would do anything other….It has some good reviews on Amazon though (and check out the other titles as well)

Watching how determined my 9 year old was to beat me at his “Blazing Angels” PS-3 game, seeing his face when he got ahead of me (secret mission through the ice canyon) then wondering how I got so competitive trying to match him….

Whilst on the subject of reccomendations here’s the provisional cover to the Air ace reprint book due out June 1 2009, 10 stories including two totally drawn by a certain Mr Kennedy, no news on the titles yet, i’ll keep you all posted.
I treated myself to this today – its like going back over 30 years in time, wonderful stuff and well worth it if you ever liked these in your youth.
Oddly enough, also saw a single “commando” comic book in WH Smiths, £1.35 which is less than a Dr Who comic or Transformers etc
Beech Staggerwing
It was a way off but I’m sure I saw (and heard) one over Basingstoke a few mins ago?
Don’t ever recall seeing one for real, do they have quite a “growl” to them?
Ahh yes the Hand cranked Rover 1s, similar to the Vulcan APU rather a strange looking thing! Little turbines are great fun to run if done properly but dangerous when not sone so!
and loud ! – we had it in a purpose built rig/carry frame, hardest part was stopping people looking inside too closely!
. My Brother and I run a few Gas turbines as a hobby
I’ve helped a friend of mine run an old Rover turbine a few times, EX-RN IIRC designed for firefighting duties ? , crank it up, add the hose, hang said hose over the side into water and fight fire with gallons of sea water.
Loud and fun and not that expensive to run either…..

Not on an NHS blame/rant, but a young child and a seemingly (without knowing the whole history) basic illness, I mean look at the poor little fellow, just leaves me shaking my head and feeling so much for the parents.

No rain here
Just sunshine, warmth (not suffocating heat) and a nice breeze which hopefully means the demon spawn, I mean my lovely children will sleep tonight for more than 30 mins at a time !

I love this, GAPING plot holes, and just what on earth is “Her majesties royal flying service” but 100 mins of fun, entertainment – perfect after a bad bad day at the office….
