The Lives Of Others…

Far be it from me to tell anybody what to do…. but you have to see this.

German made movie set in the 80’s about a writer who falls foul of the Stassi. He is spied on, apartment bugged and the policeman begins to realise what its all about. Fantastic movie, the images are spot on, everything is just so bleak, even the policemans grey zip up jacket.

If you can cope with 2 hrs of subtitles, I can’t recommend it too much.

I mentioned “warlord” in brief earlier on – it was my comic as a lad, Killer Kaine, code name “Warlord”, “The Wingless Wonder”…… fantastic….

I think it was Warlord that featured the JU-52 fitted with underwing cannon…..it’s all coming back to me……

Do the bad guys still say things in the newer ones like “By Shinto – I missed” – which is a well known Japanese fighter pilot saying by all accounts!!

I confess – I just had a **** 🙁 day at work, budget cuts, doom and gloom, factory closing somewhere yadd yadda yadda – and I just flopped out with this again and read two stories – and it really takes me back 35 odd years to when I first started reading them and I’ve had memory flashes from lots of them.

“O for Orange” about a famous Wellington crew whose pilot is killed and his brother takes over (Crew featured in an R for Robert type film) one about two pilots, one of whom owned a diamond that the other lost. Strong memories about one where a fighter pilot gets transferred to Beauforts and sinks a ship loaded with fighters so they paint his room top to bottom with swastickers and more are coming back to me. have to admit, a fine way to forget the day. That said, budget meeting with my boss tomorrow, and he is from Cologne…. if I say “Himmel” and “Tufel” a lot….. it may help the meeting ?:diablo:

Dornier 17/215 ?

Look at a side view of a Dorneir 17/215 – we know the fusalage is narrow, but there is a small window below the wing root.

where was it taken?

then again, that would leave a big light on the trailing edge of the wing…… muppet….

you’d have to share the fee with your co-tester unless you are planning on doing it yourself and claiming all of it ?

MN-304 went to 56 sqn Feb 1944 coded US-Y, 181 sqn March 1944 coded EL-N in the Frances K Mason book, says it flew rocket attacks but no further history

Just looked in on my son, binned Harry Potter and is sat up in bed reading “the black zero” from bandits at 12 o’clock high, I’m so proud……:D

Now reading Stephen Ambrose ‘Eisenhower and his Boys’ – which has immediately annoyed me by stating that the only theatre that the British Army was engaged in after 1940 was North Africa! :confused:

I used to read a lot of Ambrose in my “A” level days, his more recent stuff I’ve heard quoted as “being more interested in raising monuments than describing the history” – interesting point.

maybe ask on the modern forum but IIRC the RAF want to shift the “tranche 1” airframes if possible, with some on sale to Oman.

If they did look at this as an option (I have my doubts, costs etc) that maybe what they look at. Not a good time to equip a display team with the economic climate what it is, and more so, soldiers being put at risk for the lack of helicopters.:mad:

Purists (OK, nit pickers like me) may not like the CGI but it only features in brief at the start – a belting story and well worth a Sunday evening sprawled in front of the TV. I just tried to dig out a copy of the book on the WWW, over £50….. told you the story was well hidden !

I’ve read somewhere that there will be an “Air ace” compilation in the future as well. I used to save some holiday money to buy the summer specials to read in the car while we were on the way to summer holidays.

“warlord” was my comic, Killer Cain was the fighter ace in that one. Lord Peter Flint was a Spy, “Union Jack Jackson” – and who remembers the “Wingless Wonder” a crashed Swordfish that was put onto canoes as floats and used to attack Japanese shipping. To quote above, “Aieeee, I die…”

That Whirlwind in the white scheme, looks lovely especially with the single cannon.
