Why not remake it? It’s a truly classic story that is familiar to many people, and the original version is now so outdated it will simply fade from the minds of the public because the younger generation won’t relate to it. Amodern coloured version with hopefully a more accurate storyline will be most welcome. My only concern is I doubt anyone could better Michael Redgrave’s performance as Barnes Wallis.

I sat through it with my 8 year old a few weeks back, he went outside to the garden, used his thumb as a “scale” to judge 30 feet (approx hight of the house) then doubled it – “wow daddy, 60 feet at night with no help”…. he got well into the notion and sat in the bath with his little sister trying to demonstrate bouncing bombs. a remake will bring a new audience not only to this story but hopefully the rest of the history. I’m 42 and a good friend of mine feels that our generation is the last with a direct link to WW-2, the last that knew people who served. To an 8 year old, its as relevent as Waterloo was to us – if it makes one person pick up a history book and read on, I’ll be happy.

At Bournmouth in the Uk before its closure they had pretty much unsupervised access to a Hunter, Canberra, and a few of the large exhibits – they suffered the shameful loss of parts and damage but kept going – a triumph of good intentions over **** behaviour !

Also, at East Midlands, they will (If poss) open up the exhibits but again, they run the risk – I had a sit in the Vulcan, Argosy and F-104 (which was a squeeze in a t-shirt and I’m only 5 feet 8 !) they also had the Hunter open and on certain days others open under supervision. Fine place and I’d recommend anybody to go there.

it does add to the day, I paid at Bruntinthorpe to sit in a Lightning and would happily pay, say £5 to try some more – but I guess its down to the owners etc.

I asked about that space a few weeks ago, efiste2, it’s used for corporate functions and the like.

I think it’s a great museum, and am with efiste2 re. learning and stimulation for kids. It might get some of them going on old aircraft and that’s got to be good! 10 out of 10.

He was just short of his 8th birthday, half way around the cold war exhibit having sat in the cuban missle crisis “interactive” dome he says “so Daddy, a cold war isn’t quite a real war, but the big countries got little ones to do it for them?”

then we had “so the people at that airbase didn’t want missles there, but who would fight for them?” – after seeing the CND exhibit.

he learned so much through the quality of displays I’d go back today – and as mentioned above, the big red do not touch buttons are superb ! everybody pushes them.

Its not ideal and while not all the exhibits are spot on (hands up who would put the Neptune in there – me for one) but as a “package” its superb, the little fellow wants to go back and he learned and had his interest in history and aviation stoked up – what more could you ask from an aviation museum?

That said, if I had £100m to spare, I would buy these two paintings. I would cut them up into 2in squares and buried each piece on a forgotten airfield. A few years ago a group of artists burnt £1m. Why? he was Italian and you won’t get thousands of people in a traffic queue on a motorway to see them – its the old class based perception of its classic and old and therefore must be good. £100 million, I find that sort of spend offensive:mad:
