The DO was an ex-105 pilot, and he never let the Wing CC forget it. The CC was a phantom pilot and he’s always tease him about having a back seater and a spare engine.
The DO was a career fighter guy, he punch out of a F-100 on take-off from Wheelus AB in Libya. IIRC, he was plucked out of the Med. Quite a guy.

After the CC was transferred, our new boss wasn’t a pilot but a WSO who served in RB-66s.
Nobody teased him because on his 30th missiion his plane was hit by a SAM and he was the only survivor. Then he spent 6-7 years as a POW and was routinely tortured.
A quite, modest man, it was an honor to serve under him.

Thats really interesting, thank you (and “spare” engine, I like that…) As for British nominations, The Swift, (not as bad as they would have you believe)The Victor (always second to the Vulcan, why ?) the Seamew (I mean, come on, what were they thinking…..?) probably more if you think on.

A-5 is a good shout though, wonderful looking beast, what did they say, looked like it was supersonic even when it was parked up on the carrier deck….

Given that it was a tactical aircraft used in a strategic manner heading “Up North” (while strategic bombers carried out tactical carpet bombing in the South….) it seems to have done the best it could (through attacking targets selected in Washington, through carrying a tiny payload when there was a bomb shortage among other things…)

I bet there are still F-105 aircrews who would love “just one more go” in the cockpit.

Wife told me she wanted “out” on Jan 3rd which was painful.:mad:

I did however, meet two heroes of mine, “Winkle” Brown and Rikki Villa (ex Spurs player), I see far more of the kids than I did before, and they are both showing no signs (at least so far) of any problems at school….:D

But yes, not my best ever year by far…..

No buses, trains, schools, bread, milk, mail….nothing has got through to the village in 48 hours it seems. Except….would you believe….a party of Jehovas Witnesses came a knocking here just before it got dark. I have a theory that the rail and bus company, Royal Mail, bakers and milk companies should only recruit from the ranks of Jehova’s Witnesses. That way, the country would be up and running in no time…..
