Vortex, V22 Osprey also has a unique Tilt rotor Triplex Digital FCS to support its unique aerodynamics.

Martinez, I have said your asking Why they have retained a switch that would have needed with soviet ammunitions.
I had a mig 27 upgradation PDF picked up from AI07, cant find it now will try to do that.

But as I said It is not possible to find such answer in public domain that why the switch has been retained particularly.

There can be number of reasons,

1> They kept it intact and used another bus.
2> They have removed the thing and has kept the switch for some reason.

There is nothing for HAL to prove in this, They have done a upgradation laid down by IAF ASR (Air staff requirements) and the upgradations are well documented by their own magazine, now how they did it, why they retained a soviet era switch, if even they have only the switch these and not the machineries related can only be known by them.

Shoot them a email if you want to.

Ps : It can be for turning on music player or radios as well :p

Gentlemen, Lets not take this into unhealthy debate.

As rayubik has pointed out from Rupaks article,

Indications are that the existing Weapon Control System has been retained, but a new weapon interface box has been developed for the integration of new weapons.

So there might be a new interface developed for handling PGM’s et al and the soviet era bus is left alone for using the weaponiries and integrated where they matches.

    Simple as that 🙂

Thanks for pointing that out, been having trouble answering a few questions about the new weapon computer in the Mig-27. One of the strengths of Flogger attack aircrafts has been a “deep” integration of the SAU autopilot system into the analogue weapon control computer. With special autopilot modes activated, the SAU gathered informations from other weapon/nav systems “literally” allowing to pilots to fly tactical missions without touching the stick. Does the “old” FCS of the modernized Mig-27 feature the same funcionality with the new digital nav/weapon suite?

I dont think it is possible to know such things in public domain other than peoples who are affiliated with IAF.

I realy dont think that it makes much difference, look at the Vixen-500E for instance. It is also a fairly sensible upgrade for the LCA to improve capability.

Vixen 500E is said to be “not so capable” AESA, so is it really worth upgrading with Vixen 500E?

Better will be something 640 TR modules AESA but using GaN chips.

30 combat planes lost in three years

New Delhi, May 16: Thirty combat planes, including Mirage 2000 and MiG-29 fighters, were lost in crashes in the past three years.

The highest toll was suffered by the Indian Air Force which lost 27 fighters followed by the Indian Navy which lost three Sea Harriers, according to figures tabled in the Rajya Sabha today by Defence Minister A K Antony.

MiG-21s, dubbed as ‘flying coffins’, were the worst hit with as many as nine jets crashing between April 2004 and May this year followed by six Jaguar Deep Penetration strike aircraft.

While MiG-21s are progressively being phased out by the IAF, Jaguar squadrons have recently undergone upgradation at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

The IAF had also lost four MiG-27 ground attack fighters in crashes in the same period.

The greatest lost to the Air Force has been the crashes of frontline four Mirage 2000 and four air superiority MiG-29 fighters.

Three of the Mirages, which have the best safety track record in the IAF, were lost in crashes in 2004 and one in January this year.

The IAF is planning a multi-crore mid-life upgradation of both the Mirage 2000 and MiG-29 fighters. (Agencies)

Oh boy oh boy, so HAL made mirage must have been flown only in 2004 then in January this year 😮

rayrubik do you have link to the parliamentary comitte report?

oh saf Your free to discuss any article, this is a international forum and You have a bounty to prove your point as well.

    Cross posting from PAF thread,

    Lets look at things,

1> Mig 21 crash a year and half ago in succesive happened due to adulterated fuel. Official investigation report.

2> Mig 29 crash 3 times this year happened DUE TO BIRD HIT TWO TIMES AND ONE TIME DUE TO ENGINE MALFUNCTION. because they were not even upgraded by HAL, until recently a deal has been signed to upgrade them.

Just to give him a example,

One of the Jaguar crash happened due to bomb fuse.

    Dont believe me?

Here is his orkut profile go and ask their peers,

So can someone tell me if bird hits a plane and it crashes, a series of mig 21 crash due to adulterated fuel, crash due to malfunctioning of bomb fuse determines HAL’s quality of making?

does this guy griffin pak even in his wildest thoughts have considered THE FACT THAT all the Mig 27/23 , Jaguars, Sukhois, Dhruvs that are flying today HAS BEEN MADE/OVERHAULED BY HAL.

The whole mig 29 fleet ran into spare problem has been kept in service aftermath of cold war , thanks to HAL.

If Picking up snippets from parliamentary committe and Media making a fuss out of it is what he considers to be authentic, can he tell me the serial numbers of those were made of that year only? I can say for fact most mig21’s has eben overhauled by IAF and around 1 year no crash has happened of mig21’s.

    Grow up kid.

Shouldnt be a problem, Rafale has a small nose and its getting an AESA, the F-16 has a small nose and the block 60 got an AESA. Selex systems are marketing the Vixen-500E for small nosed aircraft as well.

What is the size of Block 60’s Radome? and Rafale’s Radome?

    Didnt pakistan has HQ-9 SAM?

Well my take is if the article speaks mainly of J10 and jf17, knowing chinese things normally doesnt costs much, Pakistan would be in better place reducing jf17 and ordering more J10’s.Then it is quite justificable, OTOH I personally think all the upgrades that jf17 are stated for, and the money that would require to redesign a full FBW, put AESA, is better puted in J10, AS PLAFF will also buy the thing.

To China pakistan is a gateway to invoke interest in other countries to expand and sell their aerospace industry and products respectively. Thus to them exporting more jf17 would be economically better as it can be easily exported to other countries contrary to J10.

The new fire control radar for combat aircraft could be an AESA for the LCA and potentially the MCA. It would explain the desperation to get AESA technology through the MMRCA programme.

I think LCa’s Radome is too small to fit good AESA?
now ofcourse if they are GaN TR modules , a different ball game. :diablo:

I guess for once I’d agree with you.

I thought You agree with me all the time, afterall I argue with “facts” 😉 peoples are free to prove me wrong, always willing to learn.

As long as both sides have good deterrence neither side will go into conflict with the other.

With all honesty Pakistan/India knows this well any conflict will slow down economic growth.Planes are not deterrence, nukes are but those are paper tigers 😉

Let kashmir issue get resolved, LOC become IB with concession of travel to peoples with families in both sides, economic growth can clock more.

And Joey, are you actually saying good things about the JF-17? Pleasant surprise indeed!

I normally dont speak bad things like “maybe possibly?” many of your personal buddies based on media speculations 😉 until ofcourse provoked with loads of trolls. :diablo:

Jf17 is a good bird and if necessity IAF has means to deal with it, and it have to deal with it, hell even if PAF get Raptors IAF has to deal with it, whats the biggie?

I’ll also wait how the avionics package weapons package turn out to be, many things are not clear, IIRC some kanwa article said it is still in developement phase.

my purpose in posting the article was not to start a full fledged war here 😀

I’m just curious to know what everyone thinks. While this may be unpopular, but I don’t think the US has walked into Iraq and Afghanistan and solved the problem any better than Pakistan has in Wazirestan.

On the JF-17, I find it intellectually curious why the JF-17 is just going to get blown away and air superiority is going to go to India. What specifically is it that doesn’t work in the JF-17? Is it that the SD-10s fired from a JF-17 are going to miss the targets while the SD-10s from the J-10s are going to sink home? Is it that the JF-17 has a ****y radar that cannot even lock onto an IAF fighter? Is it that the JF-17s are going to run out of gas and fall out of the sky? Is it that the JF-17 is a really slow aircraft and it’ll just be a sitting duck? Is it that 4 BVRs and 2 WVRs are not going to do the job? they are just going to miss and then an IAF Tom Cruise is going to show ’em the finger and shoot em down while drinking coke in his cockpit?

Surely, SOC is not the average idiot on the forum and he’d have some points even if he’s a bit blinded by his prejudices.

I personally think that with the AWACS presence in Pakistan (perhaps the largest we will see in asia) and refuelers that they are buying, very few countries are going to be able to enter Pakistani airspace and get away with it. On top of this, talking about air superiority (if you know what the technical definition of this is) is just madness.

I dont think we will see anytime soon IAF and PAF war so whats the use of comparing with IAF?

OTOH, I personally think jf17 is a good bird, and in block 2 if they plan to upgrade it (full digital FBW/better radar) , it’ll only get better.

Pakistan needs jf17 for two reasons,

1> to replace large fleet of old planes.
2> to start a manufacturing in home creating jobs.

    my 0.02 😀

There is nothing to go frenzy about mate..

Problems are a part of developement, The raptor will itself encounter such small issues and will be ironed out.

Thats how developement happens all over the world.
