You mean 91 Squadron weren’t at Dux with Mk1’s?! :stupid:
The nose appears to be slightly up which would make the turn more likely.
Only today I watched the disturbing videos of both the B52 and C17 crashes .
In both cases, apart from the ridiculous situations of them being manoeuvred at such low level , the noses were low during the turn ruling out any recovery.
Actually the Special Ops element came from Germany, the Woodbridge element was the rescue squadron.
21st SOS ‘Dust Devils’ who were at Woody with MH53’s not Special Ops then?
This is great news, I have always found it strange there was no proper airfield memorial there especially with the RAF history and of course the legendary Fourth Fighter Group.
They were only there for a couple of years in the early-90s, before flying operations at Alconbury closed down in early 1995.
I always regard RAF Woodbridge as the Special Ops squadrons spiritual home.
Nicely put Moggy post 42.
Sad, talk about the proverbial “guests that won;t leave”…WHY is the USAF even still in the UK?……why do they insist on having bases in the UK, Germany etc. when the NATO component for the defeat of the USSR folded up years ago?……there is NO reason for the USAF to even BE in the UK….
and simply put, getting F 35’s stuck in the UK is NOT a good thing…..apparently many US towns and cities near the testing grounds for the F35’s are issuing alot of serious noise complaints…I guess the F35 is one seriously LOUD flying brick…
Get back to reading your Socialist Worker !
Does anyone seriously think a future Labour government would care more?
If they return in 2015 kiss goodbye to much more than the Biggin Chapel.
The Reds and BBMF for starters.
Many of them really do not ‘get’ the majority’s preoccupation, as they would probably put it, with past conflicts.
I hope the Chapel gets the support it deserves.

Though I understand at Boultbee, to be allowed to even touch the controls, you must have signed up for the course, not just a single flight?
The above is more a question, rather than a statement.
Moggy
As I understand it, you sign up for a course with time logged in a Tiger Moth or Chipmunk, Harvard and finally the Spitfire .
I think the Biggin flights are just as a passenger.
At The Boultbee Academy PPL’s can fly the Spitfire and log the time .
The one by Ben Dunnell is in the current issue of Aeroplane.
Many thanks Charlie, I must hunt that down.
Fascinating story and sits well alongside the recently published account of Peter Kynsey. Had it not been me accepting at age 13 that my short sight meant i could never have a flying career i would have been a hangar rat at Blackpool and perhaps become a pilot full time. Nowadays I always suggest that people never take the first time they are told somethings not possible as just the start.
Is the article about Peter Kynsey available online?
It’s no exaggeration to say that that has to be one of the finest articles I have ever read, plenty of goosebumps whilst reading and happy memories of the Hanna and Grey family and reminders of what they have done for the warbird world.
Very nice photos, the last would be classed as a ‘selfie’ by today’s standards .
Just read his DT obit. He certainly had some hair raising adventures in two of Hawkers finest.
