I’m a little confused by the various posts.
Is this actually going to happen next month or not ?
From July 1st so they say. I’d wait before parting with any money, I’m yet to be convinced , see my post 26.
I think you’ll find he is the most current Buchon pilot in the world at present and has flown it since 2006, having converted onto it utilising his previous experience in flying the Russell group’s Bf109e
Dead sticking a light aircraft to a safe landing is worthy of praise let alone a Buchon!
You are entitled to be impressed Steve.
Looks like JR flew the Spit back from Headcorn.
The Hog is flyable up to 2028, it’s been upgraded and rewinged.
Problem is, the USAF have to pay for the F35 somehow.
Funny they don’t consider cutting some of the vast F16 fleet to allow the CAS dedicated Hog and it’s specialised crews to remain in service. That way you will have enough F16’s to do the missions they do well and the Hog to do CAS which the F16 can’t do well. I’m talking danger close CAS with troops in contact.
A landing without flaps:eek:
Thirded! Was it John Romaine?
Apparently so, at Headcorn.
I’m surprised at the ‘Our Pilots’ section, Al Pinner I can understand , but two serving RAF pilots Sqn Leader Dunc Mason and Flt Lt Parky Parkinson?
Fantastic and skilled flying there re the Buchon .
Has it been reprieved though? There is a fantastic campaign to keep the Warthog in service currently running in the US but I get the impression that the USAF will get their way in order to pay for the new gimmicky toy F-35.
The USAF brass never seem to learn lessons from past conflicts.
Much prefer PV202 in these latest markings , I’m no purist, but I could never accept it in the 19 Sqn colours/marks.
I won’t prejudge the programne although I do not like Dan Snow’s presentational style. However I do criticise the BBC for their attitude. And this will be yet another nail in the coffin of the Charter which will hopefully only be renewed for a radically slimmed down national broadcaster.
Re Dan Snow, I can’t help but agree.
Personally I’d prefer James Holland or even Jules Hudson.
A quickly as that ? I only went there once (many, many years ago) It took a lot longer than that to get out.
Around 25 odd years ago it was torture getting out but nowhere near as bad as last night.
In more recent years despite the size of the crowd, Air Displays International had the traffic control off to a fine art.
The organisers to their credit have acknowledged the problem and are reviewing plans for any future event.
I have been amusing myself reading the comments on their Facebook page, the majority of suggestions for future traffic control arrangements make sense but some peoples suggestions for future flying display participants were frankly hilarious.
One buffoon suggested US F-15s and F-16s and declared himself bored with ‘propellor jobs’ another found the closing Spitfire display boring.
The top prize went to the brain donor demanding Harriers!
Even non aviation minded workmates of mine were aware that the Harrier was unceremoniously scrapped.
The organisers went to great pains to explain that the event would be deliberately lower key compared to past events and aimed more at the local community.
As a Biggin Hill Air Fair veteran of many years I lowered my expectations and therefore wasn’t disappointed on the day, I thoroughly enjoyed it……….and got to sit in a Spitfire !!
Aside from the Reds other highlights were Peter Teichman in the P-51 and Dan Griffith in the Spitfire .
It was especially nice to see MH434 with the Red Arrows but I think Nigel Lamb does a more Ray Hanna style closing show at Biggin than Paul Bonhomme.
Fantastic photos throughout!
Peter Teichman did a superb routine at Biggin in JJ.
A great little event and a privilege to witness the Red Arrows 50th anniversary display.
The traffic control was an absolute debacle however, some very very angry people at the end.
