I’d love to know if an identical sentence would be handed down to any individual scrawling a message on the memorial celebrating the unfortunate soldiers murder?

Very emotive to see Spitfires and a Hurricane still roaming over the Kent countryside 70 years on.
Great job by the BHHH and Arena Aviation. The Heli flying that day was entertaining in itself!

An excellent article, I don’t care if it is in the ‘Daily Fail/Heil/Wail’ or any of the other ‘highly amusing’ names the paper is given…….would you see such an article in the ‘Daily Mirror’?……of course not.
John Romain concludes by saying “Schools are teaching children all about the Battle of Britain, but also about the engineering side. I think they’re getting that heritage across to youngsters.”
For the time being maybe, certainly wasn’t the case several years back.

The Mark 18 looks gorgeous by the way, do love a Griffon Spit:angel:

I’m so glad the weather behaved and it was so nice to see so many people turn out along the main road to watch.
Walking back to the car it was amazing to hear the amount of people mention the Air Fair and that it should be brought back. Certainly my airshow season is much the poorer for its passing.

Many thanks to everyone at the BHHH for putting the time and money into this wonderful Remembrance Sunday commemoration.
    Great photos by the way.

Very sad news, I have to confess I didn’t know of Sqn Ldr Iveson’s service with 92 Sqn.
I will be sure to think of him when I pause by the Bomber Command Memorial tomorrow.

Some great photos there. I can imagine Osprey publishing being interested in some of them for upcoming volumes.
Thanks for posting up the link.

Looking forward to this, I have a high regard for James Holland he is a good presenter and author, I’m thoroughly enjoying his book on the ‘Dambusters’ raid at the mo.

    Thanks for the great shots.
Looks like I missed a good one.
I had planned on going to Duxford with the BCWM members day at Bentwaters as back up but the weather forecast scuppered both in my plans as I have to drive from Kent.
As I drove and aqua planed my way to my third choice, Hendon, in treacherous conditions I thought I had made the right choice………until I saw photos from both events! Ah well, never trust a forecast implicitly .

Affordability is different to different people.Yes i agree £20-£30 per person x that by 4 + fuel, food soon builds up .

A well made point, but it isn’t always people short of cash.
My neighbour is not short of a bob or two and he would never dream of paying to get into a Biggin airshow ,in fact he had barely concealed contempt for me and others paying to get in year in year out.

To return to the A26 crash, the crash site was down in the valley and to be fair, any people down there could have just been out for a walk etc, the freeloaders tended to populate the areas outside the airfield fence and on the greens of Leaves Green.
There but for the Grace of God go I, but I wouldn’t want to tar everyone with the same brush , I’m betting there are many aviation fanatics who are going or have gone through hard times financially who just wanted to see a display so maybe stood outside.
At Duxford I gather it is the photographic bor……..er, enthusiasts that favour the fields because of the suns position.
I dare say there are a few Fagins amongst them though.
It’s a discussion that will never go away with strong views both sides.

Have to agree, I’ve seen too many stateside warbirds in questionable colours, if modellers can get it right………

Excuse me asking, but have you (and the other critics here) actually read the book, which has, incidentally, been around since 2010?
For years, all we’ve heard is how the Hurricane destroyed more of the enemy than all of the other defenders put together, and the author, by pulling together all of the available figures, shows that it wasn’t so. He also does not denigrate the Hurricane, in fact, in his “Conclusion,” he states, “So, whilst the claim that the Hurricane executed greater damage upon the enemy whilst the Spitfire walked away with the glory is largely a myth, the fact is that in 1940 the Hurricane was essential in the defence of this country.”
Among a plethora of figures, he shows that 19 Spitfire Squadrons destroyed around 530 aircraft (at an average 28 per Squadron,) while Hurricane Squadrons destroyed 656 (at 22.5 per Squadron.) So the Hurricane destroyed more in total, but fewer per Squadron.
If nothing else, it shows that the old saying that “There are lies, damned lies, and statistics” still holds good.

    Fair point.
I’d be interested to pick up a copy one day out of curiosity proving that what the author may lack in memorable writing style he more than makes up for with his marketing skills.

It was brave young men who won the battle. Spitfires and Hurricanes were merely their tools.

    Very true.
