I still intend going, don’t think there will be a huge influx from RIAT, there are many jet fans who regard piston warbirds as the work of the devil.
Some would rather fry their own heads in garlic, than be seen at Dux or OW.
As for tomorrow, I shall ignore the bloody forecast……..looking at the METARS for the Cambs area, it didnt seem as bad as forecast:o
I’m sure we will find out in the next few hours as the first of todays crowd return from their Duxford mission.
So, 558 has two displays in the bank;)………just hope they aren’t wasted on the champagne quaffing freeloaders on the Farnborough trade days:rolleyes:
This is a great loss for the RAFBFE,the weekend revenue gone, plus sales of the DVD.
Crikey, looking at those pics, I’d be surprised if it goes ahead tomorrow.:(
Seems that perhaps it is a result of the ‘Vulcan’ effect that advance ticket sales were so high.
Wherever the Vulcan shows up, it will cause crowd chaos, it would have been the same with Biggin and Kemble had 558 turned up.
I live close to Biggin, but would have left home ridiculously early if 558 had been displaying.
The F-22 Heritage idea would be nice actually………especially as Steve Hinton is a heritage pilot………………anyone know if Ed Shipley is at Duxford this weekend?
From the RIAT website
How can anyone guarantee anybody’s safety? I’ve just slipped over running to answer the telephone so who do I sue?
Just tell people to put their welly boots on and pack a mac.
I remember some air shows where the toilets were large open buckets with a plank balanced on the top. Smelled bad and you risked falling in!
I have vivid childhood memories of those toilets at Greenham in the 70’s……in fact I was scarred by the experience, no wonder I turned out how I did……..who do I sue?!:D
Back to ‘Fairfordgate’, I suspect it has more to do with police concerns about loads of people turning up on the sat expecting to buy tickets on the gate, the weather has given them a good excuse to avoid a ‘riat’.
The no on the gate saturday ticket sales decision threatened to back fire spectacularly, as turned away punters attempted to leave car parks as others tried to go in.
I wondered about 558 too, maybe a fly by on their way down to Fairford?
That would happen, now I’ve decided on Legends tomorrow after a visit with the latest Saturday TAF’s for the Cambridge area:p
Common sense says its the right decision, but for me this wasnt just another Fairford, with highlights including the F22 and the Vulcan.
Many Fairford shows were indistinguishable from each other over the years, but the line-up this year looked tantalising.
Oh the misery.
Nice idea………but lets get a Halifax in the air instead :p
Didnt Sunday at Waddo last year get called off on the morning of the show?
Its nice to have Legends, but I’m gutted about this…..this was one RIAT that had some must see items
No one tomorrow, the show is off…….and sunday is ticket only assuming it goes ahead, if you haven’t got a ticket sunday, don’t travel.
Bang goes my chance of seeing 558
Immediately thought “Legends here I come” but tomorrows TAF’s don’t look great………very sad, not missed a Fairford since 85
The camera work wasn’t the best…….and a missed opportunity with the intermittent footage from the Lanc, but full marks to the beeb for televising it at all. They redeemed themselves by staying on for the BBMF display, the GWDT and the bombursting Tiffies.
Great to see the veterans, particularly Peter Brothers, 32 Squadron, Biggin 1940.
Great shots, thanks for posting them.
Particularly love the colours of this ‘Fort’, and ‘Janie’ is looking lovely as ever, a few months later and ‘Marinell’ could have joined in.
Was that Bentwaters in shot number 7?
Absolutely gorgeous.
I never tire of seeing ‘new’ Mustangs, surely this one looks better than the day it was delivered.
Well done to all concerned so far, best of luck for the rest ofthe project.
