    I think it’s true. For some reason the name Otis Spunkmeyer rings a bell (he owned the C-47, and I *believe* had it painted in his company colours??)

    some stupid yank who objected that the a/c parked up were not BOB era!

    Was the BBMF Mk.IIa even there?? I’m not sure, but I think AR213 was…

    Daren, there’s a plan in the Traplet catalogue which you could adapt

    They also do a canopy and cowling for this plan which will make life a little easier for you.

    I think museum exhibits are OK, you’re just not allowed to have them on flying aircraft in Germany (although for film-making purposes I think it’s acceptable).

    Nope, just the guns. I asked Roobarb that in another thread, and he said that the wingtips were staying in place, and the tailplane struts wouldn’t be fitted as they were fakes (i.e., non-functioning) on the film aircraft – and they kept falling off in flight!

    I did a thread on it a while back. Loosely-based on the life of Richard Hillary, it’s not bad at all, though there’s not a huge amount of aerial action in it (three Spits and a Buchon dogfighting occasionally).

    It NEVER gets the same amount of discussion as Piece of Cake, but then I suppose it’s not as controversial….

    The clip has been mentioned and posted a couple of times in other threads. Apparently the pilot was none other than the great Ray Hanna!

    No “apparently” about it.

    Incidentally, I always thought the clip was shot at Duxford, but I’ve never paid too much attention to the background to notice.

    Not BBC, but ITV – they should re-run Piece of Cake and A Perfect Hero this year.

    Still, even if they don’t, the two series are out on DVD….

    The follow-up to the 1945 original sees Velvet Brown’s orphaned niece arrive from America and eventually wind up on the British Olympic eventing team. Better than I remember it being!

    Seen the advert twice this evening – some Spitfire footage in the programme, as well as more modern light aircraft.
