Flew over storms a number of times and its always a wonderful sight. Sometimes a little more nervy flying close to storms though.
On Wednesday night though, I had my closest encounter yet. I was on a night flight out of KUL. We’d been up in the air around 25 minutes when I noticed flashes outside and some minor turbulence. The captain came over the tanoy and said he was expecting a few showers and told us to buckle up. Now, I’m used to riding over storms or around them, but never have I gone through them. To be in a cloud when lightning strikes is a hell of a lot more scary than seeing it from above as everything lights up around you. At one point, there was a flash that ‘flashed’ around 6 times in a second. I was just waiting for the bang to confirm we’d been struck but nothing happened. Whether that means we weren’t struck or I just didn’t hear it I don’t know. What I do know is that the turbluence was incredibly minor when I would have expected something quite dramatic. Turbulence has no rules…
More good news for Jet 2!!
Guys – some comments are dreamland here I think.
We’d all love Jet 2 to run the route, and maybe one day they will, but a point to point service from a regional airport will be tough to make profitable. Add a 767 to the equation as Tommy questions and its even further off the mark. Code sharing is a possibility, but I can’t think right now of any lo-co that code shares?
Loads of uncertainty in the airline market at the minute; any far off booking is a gamble.
From what I hear, Delta are in real trouble and there is a reasonable chance things may go pear shaped. Don’t worry though, as things have looked far worse for other American carriers of late, and thus far they’ve all survived.
I was on the first KLM out of MME this morning….hellishly cold but snow thankfully stayed away.
Wow – looking like a good summer down at LBA! 🙂
Don’t, you’ll make me jealous! 😀
Great news!!
An interesting choice of routes.
How unsuccessful was the IOM route Tom? I used to work for a company that used that route a fair bit; you’ll probably remember I took it a couple of times and it always seemed reasonably popular (by Eastern standards).
A rare sight, not just in the UK.
Look forward to seeing them!
Thanks for the replies guys.
Remaining legs of the journey were satisfied by:
9M-MPO (KUL-PER)
9M-MPI (PER-KUL)
PH-BFD (KUL-AMS)
And yet again, PH-WXA on AMS-MME.
MPI (a 744) had the old interior so the business class product wasn’t as good. Though much better than KLM’s ageing 744s. All flights were on time and pretty good (just long). The full stretch coming back was pretty tough, made more tedious by it mainly being overnight flying with nothing to see. Fairly bumpy on the KUL-AMS leg, and took off into an electrical storm from Perth; never done that before but thankfully, no harm done.
This is great news!!
This should help Excel get back to the punctuality levels they were at before.
Am I right by saying these will be the first 900s in the UK?
I try to stay clear of this debate as it winds me up no end….
However…..
I don’t think my opinion has changed too much. This guy is experiencing a hell of a lot of teething problems and many on here are judging A1 as they would any other airline – they’re all game and I think that is pretty fair.
One thing I would say is people like MH are quite rare. Any publicity is good publicity; they have a flare which is difficult to put down and ultimately they usually make it.
Maybe I feel leniant towards A1 because this is a young guy following his dream, but I hope and maybe even believe, that whatever happens to A1, this won’t be last you’ll see of MH.
I continue to wish him luck and hope the debate on this thread stays balanced and fair (on both sides)….
Ended up on A319s both ways as most of you predicted.
Got back on an earlier flight too, the ex15:50 from LHR which meant a shorter day.
I quite like the ideas to be honest.
Next thing is prices to be based on approximate weight of passenger, though whether that would get through the politcal correctness council or the anti-discrimination brigade I don’t know.
At least we’re heading towards a system where the passengers that generate the cost pay for it in fares, and those that don’t, don’t. A possible end to cross subsidisation maybe?
