Well, a 319 or a 320 sounds good to me. I’d like a 320-100 actually, just because they’re so rare, though I notice BA schedules show the flights as operated by a 319.
So, what do the A321s do? Do any of those do domestic routes?
Hi T5 – its weird; I’ve always loved flying and travelling and I still get a kick out of it despite the trips being more frequent and work related, than the previous occassional and holiday related. One thing that is starting to bug me though, is waiting around in airports. I haven’t achieved enough miles yet to gain auto access to the lounges, and hanging around for 4 hours with nothing to do gets a bit repetitive after a while; particularly if views are limited.
I like your comments on Malaysian. Don’t know a great deal about them but I’m sure I heard (maybe 10 years ago) that they received a warning (allegedly) for flying with minimal fuel, such that if they had an incident, and had to fly on to another airport, they’d be dangerously low on fuel. I don’t know if my memory is playing tricks on me but I’m sure MAS had to be given a few priority landings due to low fuel. Its a shame that my only knowledge of this airline is this one piece of bad publicity. Can anyone else remember?
So thats Wideroe & Jet2 starting Bergen flights correct?
In Houston now and can’t sleep…booo!
Anyway, WTP wasn’t bad at all. I couldn’t touch the seat in front of me; the recline on the seat was threefold (Back, lumber & leg) and the seats were wider too. Usual seat back TVs.
Flight was empty so managed to spread out a bit.
Enjoyed the experience but not sure if it was worth the extra money….
Sorry, but I am smelling something fishy….
Excellent Pics Andy!
Thanks for sharing them. 🙂
Thanks very much guys – all your comments appreciated.
I’ll keep you updated on the arrival of ‘Pembo 350’ …lol 😉 🙂
Breaking news? This happened yesterday…. 😉
All sounds pretty routine made even better by the calm responses of the passengers.
I can tell you about KLM’s in Economy which I’ve used. All depends on aircraft type though.
B777/A330 – Seat Back TVs with interactive films/games with pause/play video recorder type functionality (stop/play etc..). Fantastic for when the food trolley arrives or a toilet break is required.
B767/B747/M11 – Aisle TVs. Pretty standard and acceptable but not a patch on the B777/A330.
Easyjet have just put their Budapest flights on sale.
And oh dear; they’re £100 cheaper than I paid with KLM/Malev. Poor flight times though (for what we want) but I think I jumped in a bit on this one, much to my wallet’s detriment.
I *think* this could have something to do with the demise of the 732 and the introduction of the 738. Though of course, 3 x 732 is much bigger than 1 x 738, but I think this could be a partial explanation.
On the MME front, I’m very interested to see what FR do with our daily Dublin now that we will be a 738.
Note LPA has been dropped. 😡
Don’t think its been mentioned on here yet but Ryanair are dropping Rome from March. 😡
Yeah, I went on an SAS F50 back in 1999 between Jonkoping (Sweden) and Copenhagan.
It was my first F50 flight and I remember it being one hell of a ride; particularly the approach into Copenhagan over the sea in an autumn gale. Who needs Alton Towers eh? 🙂
Chris – I’ve seen something mentioned on pprune too now, so this could be true.
I’ve decided to book through KLM & Malev anyway now – reasonable prices and a chance to get on a 737-600! 🙂
Sorry to disappoint you cloud_9, bmused56 (strange user name that!), Pembo330, and any other “spotters, artists and wanabees who comprise AlphaOne’s only supporters” (PPRuNe quote I think) but there’s still a long way to go to convince some of us that AlphaOne is anything other than a grand scam.
Eh, you’re not disappointing me Andy, you’re entitled to your opinion.
We all knock airlines and their service when things go wrong, so why should Alpha One be any different right? 😉 I just believe in this case, we could be knocking a person who is just doing his very best and following a dream, and its not nice when people get knocked for trying and giving 100%.
But its a free speaking forum and time will be the judge. Martin hasn’t delivered yet, but that’s not to say he won’t soon and I’m a big fan of enthusiasm and determination which we seem to have evidence of here; lets hope that transpires to results some time soon.
Markets boys…..markets!
T5 (Michael) – I agree completely – I don’t think you’ve said a word out of line here.
There are markets for both types of airlines, business travellers, leisure travellers etc. And, as a user of both types, I choose whichever airline fits my needs. There is nothing wrong with Lo-co airlines but a bad experience will put you off them, just like a bad experience with a mainline carrier. I’ve flown EZY and FR and had no problems with them.
Now whilst I haven’t had a ‘bad’ experience, the experience is less pleasant than those I’ve had with a full fare carrier; the fights to get on board, the unallocated seats etc. This doesn’t bother me in the slightest, because I know what I have paid for the flight. It is not a criticism of low cost travel, it can just be part of it sometimes. Generally, you don’t get this with full fare airlines, and if price is a discerning factor, and the difference isn’t big, I would choose a full fare airline because I’ve had better experiences with them. We are talking ‘extents’ though – if the price was £100 more expensive, I maybe wouldn’t do it; but £20-£30 – why not?
I’m looking at going to Budapest in May – the Easyjet flights aren’t out yet, but last year a weekend break from Newcastle cost me £140 with EZY. I can fly with KLM to Budapest for just over that – hardly any price difference. And that small price difference will more than cover the free drinks and food I get, as well as the Flying Blue miles I earn.
There is a market for both types of airlines and I don’t think any ‘generic’ type of person particularly flies on either type.
