I also got the BBMF 50th book,a BBMF mug,and a BBMF fleece from swmbo.Very nice and warm it is too.
Ken.
Sqdn Ldr Pinner was indeed flying her yesterday,as he parked it right next to where I was standing on his return.:D
Ken.
Thanks Fluffy,I thought that might be the case.
Where was the other flypast then?
I have to say,the 7 ship formation was absolutely awesome, and one of the reasons why the BBMF is the best.Where else in the world, would you get 4 different types of aircraft, flying like that? The noise was deafening!!!!!
I apologise for the quality of the pics.David Bailey I am not.
Ken.
I’m going,and can’t wait.
Ken.
I was at work driving my 44t truck, just off the M61 near Bolton, when I heard the tragic news on the radio at 6pm this evening.
All it said was that a crash had happened at Shoreham, but didn’t specify what aircraft had gone down.2 minutes later, the wife rung me to tell me the news,to which I replied that I had already heard.
On top of this,it is now reported that rally driver Colin McRae’s helicopter has gone down at Lanarkshire in Scotland, where he comes from, and there are no survivors.
What a very sad day indeed.:(
My condolences to all the families connected with todays tragedies.
Ken.
Sadly I missed it due to having to work,(But I did have the pleasure of the BBMF Dakota pass me overhead at Worksop!!!) but my neighbour saw it,and confirmed the censor of the word Nigger.
When are the dogooders of this country, going to get their heads out of their arses, and stop meddling with historical facts. 😡 Gibson chose to call his dog that, fact, and it’s well documented, fact,so why censor it to please the minority. One things for certain,Bernard Manning wouldn’t have allowed it.:D
And now I read in the paper this week, that other historical facts may stopped being taught in schools,so our future generations won’t learn about what is arguably the best leader this country has ever had. No,not Thatcher, but Churchill.
When is all this going to end,as I’m sick to the back teeth of it?
Right.I’ll get off me soapbox now…….
Ken.(A non politically correct person.)
Can’t work out how it flew past at 1.30pm,when you’ve posted at 1.17pm.
But it also flew over Ossett, some 20 miles away,at about 12.50pm.I heard that familiar noise before I saw it at about 1000 feet.
Looking at the BBMF calender,it looks like it had been to Whitehaven.
Lovely.
Ken.
Gutted,is not a word I use lightly, but I couldn’t go,due to someone from Waterford,in the Republic of Ireland, wanting to buy my autograss car,and me taking a 3.5 hour trip to Stroud in Gloucester to deliver it to him, where he was competing. (The days racing was good though.) And my face got sunburnt.
However the blow was softened somewhat,by a rather large amount of wonga now lining my back pocket,so I guess I’ll have to make do with members day instead to get my fix.
Glad everyone enjoyed the day,and all the pics I’ve seen so far are superb.
Congratulations you guys.
Ken.
Those comments that Fluffy has posted, serve as a fantastic reminder to those who helped the Dutch 60 years ago,and show the high regard that the RAF have in Holland.
It’s nice to see that we in England do something right, that the rest of the world look on in envy.
Ken.
I e.mailed them earlier this week,about advance tickets,and I’m still waiting for a reply!!!! 😡 😡
As it happens, something else has come up,and I’m now not able to go,but if that’s how Duxford treat their customers, then they can stick it. 😡
Ken.
Just watched the footage on Look North ,and it was very impressive.
What time did she leave Coventry,as I was in the Leicestershire/Warwickshire area around lunchtime?
Ken.
Nevertheless, pleased to see everything went off.
I have to say,the timing of the guys is impeccable.
Last September,at Blyton,I received a call from the now retired OC Sqdn Ldr Clive Rowley, that he would be flying over Blyton at 13.00,for our planned flypast, and, yes you’ve guessed it,at 13.00 precisely,LF363 graced us with her presence.
You could set your watch by these guys, and that is why they are the best.
I’m sure more pics will follow.
Ken.
Man,that sounds good.:D
Ken.
The only information about MZ348 D-Dog that I can find, according to the book,’Yorkshire airfields in the second world war’ it reads thus:
51 Squadron was to lose it’s last aircraft on operations from Snaith on 21st March 1945 on rail yards at Rheine,MZ348 being one of two aircraft from a force of 178 Lancasters and Halifaxes which failed to return.
I’m sure that there will be an official explanation somewhere, but my own thoughts after reading it,were that they went down on the raid, were captured by either German soldiers,or the Gestapo, and were shot.:(
