I do agency driving work for a company near to me,and guess who one of their biggest customers is?

    Yes.The Daily Mail.

The weekend magazines are printed and put together,in Leeds and Sheffield by Polestar, and then delivered to newspaper wholesalers, including Smiffs,so although I have missed the dvd’s so far this week, becasue I’ve been working for another customer,if I’m there on Saturday,I may be able to get myself a complete set, because if they have any left over, they are often destroyed after they have finished their circulation.

The bizarre thing for me is,that on Sunday 13th,I will be at Blyton some 50 miles away from home to see the Lanc, but live only 5 miles from her previous engagement at Heckmondwike.

    Don’t ask…….

We’ll be going for an ice cream at the very nice ice cream shop in Blyton (I highly recomend it) on that particular Sunday 😀

And I won’t be a million miles away on the airfield watching some motor racing.

SWMBO,said it’s the first time she’s felt the earth move for ages.

Don’t know what she meant by that,as I was asleep at the time…….

Plus, the LLA are moving away from their original purpose of safeguarding the Lanc, and have branched out into ownership of a Vulcan and (I think?) a Shack; to be honest, that’s NOT what I pay my mebership to them for.

    Oh dear.

If that is the case, and I would like to see it direct from the LLA,then my membership will not be renewed.

No offence to the Vulcan and Shack fans, but I pay my membership for the Lanc, hence the name,LLA,not for other aircraft.

Have those at the top informed any of the members of this, because they certainly haven’t asked me.

I pass this site on a regular basis, and often thought about asking for a look around, but fiding somewhere to park a 45 foot trailer, with tractor unit, could prove difficult.

Eddie Stobart used to have a depot in the small industrial estate, where now a shopfitting company use.

I would like to see the side of the airfield that you perhaps can’t see from the A1,just to be nosey more than anything else, but thanks for the pics.

Looks like the Lanc is going to be busy.

I’m awaiting the ones for July,as a matter of personal interest.;)

The venues on the 30th/31st May are interesting, and there are some dates posted for October and November, which must be a first.

If you want something that is very well preserved, then you need look no further than East Kirkby:

Like many others,I have visited it a few times, and still love the place. It gives you a real feeling of what it was like, all those years ago.

    Hi David.

Details are a bit sketchy, but what I can tell you is that it was on ‘B’ flight, out of Lissett, about May 1945,and two of the crew, were Wg Cdr Reid,( C/O of ‘B’ flight.) who often flew as the rear gunner, and Flt Lt Laws, who was the pilot.

    Hi Tom.

The factory that I am on about,is a very recent addition to the area, but the company that I am currently attached to,bought it from new,and sold it within 2 years,at a very healthy profit, due to expansion.I should have made that clear in my original post, sorry about that.

Your story is a fascinating one,and I’m guessing the guys on here would love to know more,if you would care to divulge.

For me personally, the crash area is not too far away as well, from where I live, and when the weather gets a bit better here,I may take a trip over to look, providing that I don’t upset anyone who lives in the area.

I will also try to get some photographs as well, and you can then see if the area has changed much since that day.

I can’t believe what I’m reading on here, this is amazing.

I work as an agency driver, and am currently working for a customer, who had a factory about 600 metres from Drub Lane.Amongst the company employees,is a former RAF MP,who, like me,has an interest in some of the old WW2 aircraft.

I’m guessing that he doesn’t know about the above, but by this time tomorrow,he will.

Words cannot express my gratitude to the guys who did what they did,and the only thing I can really say to you Tom,is thank you.

I feel humbled in your presence on the forum.
