Simply stunning.
Brought tears to my eyes.
Ken.
Strange one for me this.
Let me explain……
I read a news bulletin on the 6 metre amateur radio network (51.530mhz.) in the Wakefield area on alternate weeks,at,yes, you’ve guessed it,11am.
While speaking to my opposite number today,I informed him that tomorrows bulletin will commence at 11.02 am,to which he replied, ‘And quite rightly so.’
Ken.
Past it on Saturday, and I can confirm that the work has commenced.
Ken.
Hi Terry.
I was unaware that a special event station was taking place at EK,and considering that I read the news on 6m on the air,on alternative Sunday’s,you would think that I should have known!!!!! However,I have just found this: http://www.qrz.com/callsign
The weekend was great at Tan Hill, and the obvious highlight was talking to Peter in Canada at the CWH museum, especailly knowing that the Lanc was about to take off.You can imagine that I was like a dog with 2 tails.
Ken.
Longest contact today, has been Australia and Japan, which, considering the bands have been diabolical,is not a bad couple of contacts.
The new windows really make a difference. As I sit here in the annexed cottage that we have hired to ‘play radio’ it’s absolutely boiling hot.
Ken.
Just got back, and what can I say?
An absolutely teriffic day,as one would expect, even the weather was kind towards the later part of the day.
It seemed rude not to give Anthony ‘Parky’ Parkinson, some friendly grief, after the Spit that he first got aboard, broke down, and he had to transfer to the spare that was servicable.
Went down with some friends, who were in their first year as association members, and one of them won first prize in one of the raffles!!!!! Jammy git.
And for me and my daughter, whose 13th birthday it was today,a big thanks to forum member Stormin, for a day she kept talking about on the way home.I won’t say anymore, suffice to say I guess she’ll be the envy of her friends at school tomorrow.
Sadly,I forgot my camera, but I’m sure some pics from others will follow.
Ken.
As far as I’m aware Steve, information isn’t available to the public,as it is an event for the Lincolnshire Lancaster Association members only, however the public will see the flying anyhow from outside the perimeter, but are not allowed inside the hangar,or other areas available to members.
I’m not sure of the exact time of flying,I’m sure a member of the flight will let us know nearer the time, (BBMF,Stormin etc.) but I would guess it will be circa 13.00hrs,onwards.
If what I’ve stated is wrong,I’m sure someone will correct me,but I base my answer purely on my experience of previous events.
Here’s looking forward to a cracking day.
Ken.
I’ve never been in any service, but I tell you what, any mention of ‘Bomber’ in a documentary or whatever always makes me want to snap to attention and salute.
My feelings exactly.
Likewise I have never served in any of the armed forces, and I’m all for freedom of speech, which we would never have had,if it hadn’t have been for the actions of both Bomber Command and Fighter Command.
The lady concerned, and no,I didn’t see the programme,is entitled to HER opinion, but what she seems to forget, that if the actions of the services in this country,40+ years ago had never have taken place, then we would be speaking German right now,and probably wouldn’t have had the freedom that we have, and cherish today.
She may accuse Harris of being a muderer, but what are her opinions of Hitler I wonder?
Ken.
A comprehensive reply,if ever there was one.
Grateful for the info, however,if your short of a pilot for one of the fighters………:D
Ken.
According to Metcheck.com,the weather is looking good, although it’s still the beginning of the week, and is subject to change!!!!!
Ken.
Brian.
You have PM.
Ken.
Long after it closed, motorcycles used to congregate there on a Sunday, for a bit of a blast around on a short stretch of one of the runways.
I was 17 at the time, and used to go there myself, some 27 years ago.
Ken.
Excellent clips on YouTube Peter, especailly watched in high quality.
Well done to all.
