Bob Doe – skilled pilot, seems a nice chap and comes across as a modest hero in interviews
I’ve still got it on Sky+ so can put it on DVD for you if you like – it’s very well done

A very nice chap at an undisclosed location let me rob some panels from a dieing fast-jet – never thought I’d be sad to see this particular type go….the moral of the story is that when an aircraft is being scrapped ‘rob first, wonder what you’re going to do with the bits later’
Think it’s post war T21 though couldn’t swear to it, according to the BBC it came from JetAge Museum, their website lists it as VM325- ‘slightly mothed’ as they say…..
-LE That would make it a C19 -doooh!
Well they did produce Fw-190s under Templehof if that’s any help…..
Clive Cussler
He of the Dirk Dick er…Pitt books? Biggest load of poo ever to get into print IMO – anyone remember the one where Dick discovers Canada belongs to the US and the Canadians rejoice? – ah, no vomiting icon on this forum
Get real !! Do you think that the Soviet engineers were so stupid as to ‘build-in’ the bullet holes – just because they were afraid of Stalin ????
Carm down!
One of the engineers who made the copy said that’s exactly what happened – and as he’s a primary source………
As squit, haw kin ya sey yrrra naaarfuk bouy when ya tak lika furrana? Uve bin away too lon bouy ๐
I don’t think Dev was a fool and he had a very difficult time trying to hold the country together during the ‘Emergency’. Perhaps he was just what Ireland needed (much as it pains me to say it ๐ฎ )
He was a sharp political operator and could be ruthless when required – check out what happened to Michael Collins, who he may, or may not have sold out – and also the number of ‘irredeemable’ IRA men he had executed. Then again Civil-wars are never nice.
True enough, if it wasn’t for the fire bombers there would be fewer B-17s, Privateers, Avengers, Tigercats etc
I thought thw walrus pilot was trying to join the RAF? (sez so in my IAC decal sheet!)
Panther,
I promise when I’m rich and famous the IAC museum shall have a Hurricane and a Seafire……Though it might take a while and they might be made of fiberglass…(it’s the thought that counts ๐ )
Moggy,
there was an article a good while back in Flypast (I think) about the RAF’s role in Palistine where they said on at least one of those incidents the guns hadn’t been cocked, and this was deliberate policy rather than the armours being gash. Net result, at least one pilot was killed. The policy was then changed…..
And forget the inconvenient so it seems, I’ll take it that as you can’t refute anything I’ve said, you withdraw with hurt feelings, which wasn’t the point, it was to give a more ballanced overview. Take it you didn’t read the article then…….?
OK, letโs look at this,
you are saying that some people have no place in our memories, so presumably one mustnโt talk about the SS, the Black and Tans or ‘B’ Specials for example, as it’s easier to whitewash the past than to face the difficult questions. It’s trite but those who forget the past…..
Don’t know why you chose the inflammatory word ‘blithely’ either, I call it giving due credit.
And the explanation that many Irish crossed the water during the war to work (as opposed to those who came to join the British Armed forces) for the money comes from an Irish historian….can’t find the book at the moment but he’s not alone in his thoughts on this. (alt source my mother-in-law!)
Taking umbrige isn’t going to change the facts.
Edited to add: This seems a good overview, and makes the point about money flowing back to the poorer famalies in the South, which kind of makes the economic point
