Mr Edwards said: “Unfortunately, the consultants’ report demonstrates making it seaworthy cannot be achieved without destroying its integrity as a genuine restored historic ship to an unacceptable level. There would be so little left of the original City of Adelaide it would be little more than a reproduction – and that is not what we have been seeking to achieve.”

Blimey glad there not in the Warbird game! 😉

“By implementing a programme of recorded deconstruction, we would be recording City of Adelaide and ensuring her place in history.”

You see guys thats were you’ve been going wrong all these years you shouldn’t be restoring you should be deconstructing and recording them, thereby ensuring there place in history. Put down you’re tools get out you’re pads and order a JCB.

    Indeed there is, FGA9 XG194

As far as I’m aware it’s still there. Picture at the link below.

‘With the spar sawn through, it is not a likely candidate for a flying restoration’

What a defeatist attitude! Looks like with a little bit of spit and polish and a good afternoons work she could be up in no time! :p

On a serious note welldone to Barry for saving her.

There was actually 3 Sea Vixens there at that time XJ608 / XN699 and XP921 so that probably adds a little to the confusion. I expect the one you saw with 921 would have been XN699 as XJ608 was used for battle damage repair training in a different part of the airfield I believe.

Unfortunately I have no idea why she was there but as she came from Halton I suspect she would have indeed been in good condition. I would not be surprised if at least some of her systems were operational. Once she moved to North Luffenham she was used for weapons disposal training. Unfortunately the condition of an airframe counts for very little when its surplus to requirements.

The Sea Vixen in question was XP921 which came from Halton and then went to North Luffenham before being scrapped in 1992.

Well Done NATY and everyone at dehavilland Aviation. 😎

Lets hope the display organisers can recognise this and take a leap of faith and book her. I’m suprised Kemble haven’t booked her, them being the leaders in classic jets at airshows.

    A monkey’s what?

The full phrase is “Couldn’t give a monkeys ass” which means “We really could care less”.

And the origins of the post come from the old, ‘shouldn’t go on the forum’s when I’ve had to many real ales down the old battlecruiser’, pile.

I think Lee answered the question a bit more eloquently than me…..

And as to changing the lightbulbs…. we are earnestly seeking out the Edisson Bulb Company in the States, to see if they still make the originals… 😀

Come on NATY, get it right. I bet you were to busy playing with girls at school to notice that the original bulbs were made by the British Organic Lighting Lens Organisation of Knebworth, Stevenage ( you work out the acronym ). Tut, this complete lack of research leads me to conclude that you jet boys are to busy counting your millions to worry about doing the job right, if you cant be bothered then there’s hundreds of wedged up playboys like you out there willing to do the job right, come on put some effort in! 😉 😀
