Yeah since the Chinese have been watching the Fifth Gen fighters for a while, They will probably come up with two different models in 6 years .

PAK FA is to fly this year do you know when the Chinese J-xx are scheduled for first flight ?

and why should I know when the Chinese are going to schedule the first flight?
Unlike certain countries, China doesn’t make over-optimistic announcements on when their aircraft are flying. In fact they do quite the opposite.. they deny its existence until there’s overwhelming proof in the west and a flood of camera spotters by the air base.

See J-10, KJ-2000, etc. China never announced anything about them until later.

If you see a model of a 5th generation Chinese fighter, it is likely that its much further along in progress than people think.

Stennis never served in the military and he got a carrier.

Stennis wasn’t a sailor, but he did serve in the Armed Services committee where he made major contributions to the US Navy to the extent he is considered the father of the modern US navy. Similar to Carl Vinson who also had a carrier named after him

Also, Reagan had a thing for both of them.

Yeah, I suppose. 😉 Now if they name a future SSBN after Slick Willey THAT will be good for a laugh.

Bill Clinton never served in the military unlike Carter or Bush.
He may be eligible to have a cigar named after him but not any navy vessel.

Well, the US and Lockheed Martin are hardly giving total access to either the F-22 or F-35 Programs. Yet, they are not afraid to give at least general information and pictures. Followed by timely up dates…………

the answer is simple. Sukhoi hasn’t revealed any information or pictures because the Pak-FA DOESN’T EXIST YET!

the pace of development in Russia is slow.

Chinese firms have already developed models and concepts of Chinese 5th generation fighters and will probably beat Russia to building the first 5th generation Fighter out side of America.

    Who give a rat’s backside?

    probably the Navy

Serving in the navy doesn’t automatically entitle one to having a ship named for them.

In addition to being a submariner, he was also the President of the US. How many Presidents can you name that served in the Navy? 🙂 Hint, George Bush. You can disagree with whatever they did as presidents, but they probably have done more for their country than you ever will

now China is found to be copying South African weapons as well..
I remember a similar thing being mentioned by Russians as well, where China would approach them to purchase some systems, but only be interested in acquiring a handful, which immediately made the Russians suspicious that the aim was to reverse engineer them eventually and build Chinese clones.

How is it copying South African weapons when the article itself says it didn’t purchase any to begin with!? perhaps you should ready your own article carefully 😉

but hey, lets assume China does copy everything. Would you like it to be like India, let the Russians dictate the terms of cooperation, which you feel is the right way.. and then let the Russians rip you off later? so much for going the “legal” way. The Russians sure know how well to reward its “partners”.

Still not as bad as “USS Jimmy Carter”.

unlike you, Jimmy Carter actually served in the navy.

you can kid yourself all you want, but a lof of Chinese advances are made on the shoulders of someone else’s fundamental R&D. there would be no J-10 without the Israeli Lavi, no Chinese turbojets or turbofans without British and Russian copies, and even Chinese radars are all based on Russian technology..missiles, their seekers, etc. are all essentially modified and upgraded or simply reverse engineered Russian or Israeli copies..their KJ-2000 AWACS is basd on a Il-76 platform and if they didn’t need IL-76, they’d be building their own Il-76 class transport, instead of ordering more from Russia.

As for building new ships, why were they ordering Sovremenny class destroyers ? Because its a class of ship that they want to be able to build indigenously eventually, but they require Russian equipment initially..even India has its own indigenous class of warships that are even larger than the Talwar class it imports from Russia.

besides, its accepted the world over that China doesn’t respect anyone’s IP..from the cheapest knockoffs to even cars and fighters, they will copy designs that are not theirs and eventually market it as their own. There is a BIG difference in how IP is viewed in India and China. you won’t find a single private company in India blatantly copying a western design and passing it off as its own whereas I’ve seen how in a Chinese Auto-show, GM executives simply looked on as a Chinese copy of a GM car was on display. Chinese laws will not protect their IP and they’ve resigned to that.

there is a phrase called.. calling the kettle black.
designing something based on something existing is common.
you can find plenty of examples in the Soviet Union.

This is the Dokdo class. built by a country with no experience building or operating anything of this nature.. the idea was floated in 2001 and launched in 2005.

now imagine a country with a more developed ship building industry, more money, more man power, more resources, and more political will doing the same.

Still there are no IP rights being violated. And its not a replica copy either. The design is Indian, so is the armour. Getting design assistance and copying a design is entirely different.

don’t try to change the topic about IP rights. we are talking about self sufficiency, and whether you like it or not China is doing a better job at it.
This allows China not to be ripped off so blatantly and often when it can avoid it.. the only recent example being the Il-78 deal.

India on the other hand doesn’t learn.. it continues to “cooperate” with the wrong people and continues to get ripped off like this MiG-29k.

A long time ago, Chinese and Indian empires had very close relations and had high respect for one another’s cultures. After European Imperialism, this changed. China evolved and is going out into the world on its own. India still relishes in its dealings with imperial powers and continues to get screwed over by them.

The MKI is not Indian, Its a Russian plane with Indian components and we are not making any more than what we signed contracts for.

We are not naming it HCA and saying its Indian.

And the Arjun Is Indian with mostly Indian components, It differs a lot from Russian Tanks in fact its specs are more in conformation to western types.

not really, it relied heavily from Kraus Maffei, which is why it looks so much like a Leopard2. its fire and control system is Israeli, engine and transmission are German, etc. For the most part, its a foreign tank with an Indian badge.

When people have no respect to intellectual property rights such ‘advances’ are easy. J 11 is an Su 27 rip off as are fighters before them. KJ 2000 is Israeli, so is the core design of the J 10.

Steady progress in replica making.

yes, and the Su-30MKI, Arjun, etc are completely Indian
