In the election, UKIP are estimated as getting around 4million votes, and may only get a handful of seats.

Simply put many of these countries see the US as the cavalry that will ride over the horizon if trouble arrives. Upsetting your potential rescuer by rejecting their product is not the best way to ensure the cavalry will be available when needed.
