Lucky man, I was under the impression that, for some reason, Sea Furies were not the best of aircraft to make an emergency landing in, remember Spencer Flak’s bad landing, the RN 2 seaters argument with the trees and the incident with the RN Fury when the pilot was instructed to aim it out to sea and abandon ship.

Have TFC made an offer for this one yet, they could have a right old production line going.

My sympathies to the French people, they have always had my greatest respect.
There’s been a few comments made in the UK that brunt of the fighting is mainly down to the US, Brits and Canadians and that other nations involved, from the EU in particular, haven’t been prepared to do the business.
Whether this is true or not, I wouldn’t like to say, however, if the scum Taliban have picked up on this, they may have started to target possibly less well prepared troops, such as the French, and don’t be insulted by that, if they haven’t been in the firing line as much as our blokes from Colchester have been, then it must make all the difference.
Quite frankly they should pull all the troops out, nuke, napalm and carpet bomb the entire place and make it even more of a s### hole than it obviously is, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over such a drastic solution, what can these beardy weirdies offer to the world apart from the selfish, unnatural subjugation of women, idealogically crap religious domination, heroin production and blowing themselves up, can’t the latter be encouraged, yet controlled safely, we could herd them into the stadiums where they shot women who were ‘guilty’ of being raped by these scumbags and give them a bit of Semtex to play with, that would be nice, Al Jazzerah would have a field day, they love all that stuff.

I don’t understand why people say thing like that, do you want people to laugh, or to respect you more, because you are criticizing someone on a forum. (It’s not an essay/exam at the end of the day!)

Perhaps if you managed to write and spell things properly, thought about what you did, and not continued to make mistakes, then I might have a bit of sympathy with you. It’s rather pointless having a go at me and still managing to make grammatical errors, even in your last posting. Yes, there’s always one, on both sides it seems, we all make mistakes, I accept that, true, it may be just a Forum and not an exam, but is that a good way to start off your career, by not having the enthusiasm to do things properly, then dismiss it as unimportant.
Good luck with your job interview, just make sure your spell check is working when you write out your CV.

1908’s massive success can be accounted for by the fact that only 22 Nations were involved, compared to some two hundred and odd taking part today.

Steve Ovett was saying yesterday that the success of the swimming and cycling teams was due to the fact that the coaching is done more by group than by individual. Not explaining this well I know but it seems that it is down to the fact that most of the cycling is done in Manchester with the cyclists getting together there to train regularly. Same with the swimming from what he was saying. The problem he sees with track and field is that the training is scattered across the Country. You have athletes training at their local clubs, but those who would be classed as elite aren’t centred in one place, therefore they often have only themselves to challenge. I suppose it would make good common sense for all the sprinters to train together regularly, the same with the long and middle distance runners and I suppose the field eventers. That way, they have other elite athletes to inspire them, rather than training more or less in isolation. That would require money and planning and I suppose it also brings into question the ‘amateur’ nature of some of the events, though that is already tainted by the inclusion of such commercial events as football and tennis.

They’ve done well. That can’t be argued. Whether there’s the will to put enough money into these sports to encourage further success in four years time we’ll have to wait and see.

But has that not always been the case, why should things be different this year. I agree that the system seems unco-ordinated, but there has always been a well known, familiar athlete that has done the business, not anymore it seems, the media seems to be too obsessed with money making sports. Perhaps some of these footballers who earn more in a day than most of us do in a year should help out the athletes rather than spend it on their bloody kitchen tiles, they can always top up their earnings from exclusives to Hello Magazine if they feel that skint.
