Buble is the Sinatra of the modern era..i think he has a smoother more mellow voice than Sinatra..As for Tony Bennett.. he is just the greatest singer around and he’s still performing at his age

Sorry, Buble THINKS he’s the Sinatra of the modern era, he was on some TV show here sometime over the last few weeks and we decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, but quite frankly, he was bloody awful, no charisma, no power, nothing about him at all in fact, it was pathetic, that bloke who was in Memphis Belle could easily show him the door, the Buble myth has been invented by Michael Parkinson who has thankfully retired and spared us from having similar non entities shoved down our throats.
There are genres of music and singers who are’nt our kind of thing, but we can appreciate whether or not they deserve their little niches in the music world, musicals make me cringe, but that bloke who won the competition to appear as Joseph in the Technicolour whatever is bloody good in every way, I hate it, but appreciate his talent.
As for old gits, highlight of the year had to be Seasick Steves performance on Jools Hollands Hootenany on New Years Eve, he blew everyone away, including Macca, who I’m sure appreciated a brilliant performance.
Incidentally, did anyone who watched that programme notice the chemistry between Macca and the gorgeous Kylie, lucky git, I’d personally swim to Steve Rowells house for a session with her, and again, someone whose music isn’t my thing but she deserves to be where she is, poor old Doctor Who, he missed out there didn’t he.

I think it’s fairly obvious who’s behind these thefts, our dear friends, so often complained about on here, the Pykies, gypsies, Irish tinkers, travellers, whatever you want to call them.
I’m sure that some of these people are genuine travellers who wish to continue their historic way of life, which we have a duty to preserve, but it’s getting out of hand in this part of the world.
On the local news over the holidays, there was a disturbance in one of the camps, the police had to go in with automatic weapons, bloody ridiculous, and frightening for those who live nearby.
We’ve also had a feature on a new site about to be set up near Colchester, it’s in a stunning area of untouched countryside, the locals have dubbed anti traveller slogans on the road, who can blame them. I bet if I’d made a planning application for a tasteful house on the site it would have been turned down, but no, it’s ok to ruin the countryside with caravans and stolen scrap metal dumps.
These people treat us like providers of what ever they fancy, they treat their horses and dogs very cruelly and have no respect for war graves, memorials and the memory of heroes who fought and died to prevent them going to the gas ovens in Auschwitz.
They should remember that before they try and steal the next propellor blade, bronze war memorial or copper cable that keeps them alive.
But what do we know, the local councils have a duty to perform don’t they, in order to perpertrate whatever myth surrounds these people.

Talking of which, in Das Boot (my fave, and possibly most accurate war film), when U-96 returns to port they get straffed by T-6s! Which allied aircraft were they meant to be representing?!
Considering the length they went to to create the U Boat you would think they could have sourced better aircraft!

If you read the account from which the film was derived, ie the German reporter sent out with a sub, I think they were supposed to be Mossies, prior to entering port and while escorting a damaged U-Boat, they were attacked in the Bay of Biscay, one Mossie being shot down, while the other boat was sunk.
Bearing in mind that EH-T was around at the time of filming, it must have cost more to hire than a T-6.
My objection to the use of T-6’s, which I have stated before, is as Typhoons/Tempests in ‘A Bridge Too Far’, I think that Sea Furies would have looked and sounded the business, but probably too expensive to hire in.
The list of a/c ‘goofs’ in films is endless, it’s been covered so many times before, I’ve been trying to think of something not thought of, but I’ll settle for Skyraiders, Lancaster glider tugs and ME108’s in ‘The Longest Day’.

I also sore something very high and very fast that night too.

Certainly not a satellite, it had navigation lights and was actually travelling faster than any satellite I’ve ever seen, it reminded me of being mid channel once and seeing Concorde go over the ferry in supersonic mode, is there an altitude at which things are so high that the sonic boom disipates before it reaches the ground.
Ooops disracted, there’s 2 greater spotted woodpeckers knocking hell out of the telephone pole just outside my window, amazing stuff.
Anyway, I digress, this thing was travelling north east which would have taken it over East Anglia and over the North Sea, so your sighting in East Yorks, wherever you are, is a great possibility, the rate at which it was travelling would suggest it wouldn’t have taken long to get up to your neck of the woods either.
So where did it come from, taking a rough line back on the bearing it was heading, it could have been Boscombe Down, I wonder if air traffic control at Heathrow or Gatwick were aware of anything.

I see, and agree your point, unfortunately music can be such an emotive thing as this thread has proved, I think we should all shut up and grumble away to ourselves and look forward to the true representation of music which will be the X Factor final on saturday.
To get back on thread, I was amazed at the number of Led Zep videos on Youtube, some are terrible, especially the pirated copies from the recent concert, lets all wait for the official item to come out shall we.

The last few weekends we’ve had overflights of Chinooks, no doubt heading for and coming back from Wattisham, unusual to see these a/c on a saturday and sunday, especially late on a saturday night.
Most amazing recent overflight was a Wattisham yellow SAR on bonfire night, he came right over the house so low that I reckon he was only a couple of hundred feet, despite it being dark you could easily make out all the details on the a/c, thought it was a bit wierd considering he was within range of some of the rockets being loosed off around here.
I remember a few years ago preparing for bonfire night at my brothers, then, house at Eastwood, Notts, when a massive formation of Gazelles and Lynx’s came over at very low altitude, and yes, a few rockets were loosed off in their direction, but they had obviously set their height to prepare for this eventuality.
On wednesday night I wandered out to try and spot the promised meteor shower at about midnight, it was very cold and crystal clear, the sky was full of the usual flashing airliners heading for the countless number of airports round here then I spotted something really high, heading for the coast, definately an a/c and not a satellite, it had identification lights, but boy, was it going some, so fast that I was waiting for the sonic boom, it must have been very close to the edge I reckon.
