Another pic
The condition is staggering.

Mark,
I remember seing a photograph of the same sections but taken from a more “behind” angle in an article about the Typhoon in Flypast over a decade ago. IIRC it is a survivor. Wasn’t this the section that was used for paint trials by Glosters?
Hope this helps
Here is a photo of a Typhoon undercarriage leg that was trawled up from the north sea off IJmuiden. It has been on display in our museum ever since.

Hi Chad,
No, you are not the only one. I have tried it several times in vain too.
Since Scott went away for a while someone must have slipped.

I cannot agree more Peter
Today any missing person, no matter from which nation, just deserves to be brought home.

Firebrand in scrapyard
Cees,
There was a battered cockpit section in a scrapyard in Scotland. I have a pic and may have already posted it here in the past. If not I will post it on my return to the UK.
I don’t think that it survived. ‘Wrecks and Relics’ would confirm.
Mark
Then this must be the one in question, taken in 1966. Hope it still survives. Even a restored fuselage at least gives a representation of an extinct type.

Look at the paper drop tanks on ‘Sweet & Lovely’ – first time they have been seen on a Mustang in the modern era. The port tank is an original (one of only four known to exist), the other is a very clever copy made by Bob Baker, owner, pilot and restorer of this machine. Bob achieved the coveted Grand Chapion (WWII) award from the judges for his efforts this year.
Mark V,
We do have 1 (in perfect condition) and a 2/3 (missing it’s back end) paper droptank on display in our museum. I take it these were not included in the mentioned amount, so there are now 5 2/3, and counting.

Thanks Mark,
Mmm if it hasn’t survived then that would be a real shame as the article in FlyPast mentioned that it had been rescued before it was to be destroyed and was loaned to a collection.
If this relic is one and the same as the photo you mention then I remember seing it in a thread on this forum.
Who has a copy of wrecks and relics handy to check about the Firebrand? 😮
