    Bonjour : !

Is you don’t get the answer here and you most likely will with this outstanding group of avaition historians. Try http://www.mustangsmustangs.com a great place for info on the P-51. The 352nd is my favorite group and have been doing research on them for sometime. A few years ago at a 352nd reunion in England, one of the veterans got a ride on Rob Lamplough’s P-51 ! I see you live in Paris…great city and I look forward to coming back soon. Like London…a great walking city with history at every turn !

    Setter….Spitfire Ace is outstanding !

Setter…greetings from BlueNoser352 here in the USA, I have enjoyed this outstanding four part series and have gotten it on DVD off the History Channel here in the USA. A great concept by the production team at Britian’s Channel 4. Tremendous air to air scenes and the historical information in the documentary along with interviews with those RAF pilots and ground crew who served in that period the war adds greatly to the series. There is also inteviews with members of the Luftwaffe as well. A must to record for those of us who admire the bravery of those who fought during this great air battle.
Added to the actual flying of Carolyn Grace’s two seater Mark IV Spitfire in the production. The final show “The Greatest Day ” is my favorite. I watched the final part twice on Saturday……a classic production !!! Glad to hear it coming out on DVD. What is the web address of the ABC shops in Australia?

    All the Best!

Spitfire Ace on DVD ! ABC Store web address????

The program has been running for the last two months here in the USA on History Channel International, the outstanding four part series is one of the best I have ever seen. Its production is outstanding and a great concept to show how little training a WWII RAF pilot had ( about 9 hours in a Spit) before going on operational duty during the Battle Of Britain. Setter…what is the web address of this ABC store you speak of ? Been buying many military aviation titles from Australia on ebay and have enjoyed them. Get a region free DVD players and it opens up a whole new world for those of us who collect military documentaries. Two of the best documentaries are the 2004 BBC production “D-Day 6-6-44” and Britain’s Channel 4 60th anniversary of the Dams Raid by 617th Sq. I know that Channel 4 did the same concept program for a RAF Bomber Crew in Bomber Command. Showing what training a crew under took for its training. Have not seen this program in the USA yet. Perhaps is coming to the History Channel soon. I take it that this is a chain store in Australia?

    Thanks !

    Remember Before God
    those men and women of
    the European Resistance
    Movement who were secretly
    trained in Beaulieu to fight
    their lonely battle against Hilter’s
    Germany and who before entering
    Nazi – occupied territory here
found some measure of peace for
    which they fought !

Thanks JDK on SOE tape !

    The S.O.E.:

Yes I found a copy off http://www.amazon.co.uk and got it remastered to N.T.S.C. and its a fantastic look at the O.S.E. Just picked up a great book on the history of the organization by M.R.D. Foot . Who was a member of the
SOE during the war and its called ” SOE : The Special Operations Executive
1940-46″ ISBN # 0-89093-673-0 I see the book was made into a series by the BBC in the 1970’s, do you guys remember seeing this on British television ? Did a search and looked at several UK based video/dvd stores but had no luck ! But really enjoyed “Now it can be Told” outstanding record on the SOE and it brave agents !

    Thanks !

Ian please give my regards to Tarnia !

    Ian:

Please give my kind regards to Ms Szabo’s daughter and how much I admire her bravery and service to her country in the SOE. Her deeds will live forever and we should do all we can to remember and honor those who risked all in the cause of liberty and freedom. I would hope by now she has a video or dvd copy of “CARVE HER NAME WITH PRIDE”. In today’s world we over use the term hero and for the short life of Violette Sazbo it hardly describes her service to the Ailles & mankind ! Hope all is well Ian …got to get over soon and pay you a visit..take care !

    Thanks!

A documentary about Violette Szabo !

Thanks men, yes I am talking about the documentary made by former BBC Porducer/Director Marcus Davidson. Its called ” Violette Szabo Remebered”
and is sold at the museum. I hope to make contact with the museum and order a copy. Such a brave woman and she was taken at such a young age. I was hoping someone here on the Flypast forum had a copy of the documentary and could tell me about it. Got to get “CARVE HER NAME WITH PRIDE” on DVD. With events like those on 9/11 here an in London the last two weeks we could use more people like Violette Szabo. Just placed an order for
the book by author Susan ottaway “Violette Szabo: The Life I Had” !

    Thanks !

I happend to find a very old copy I made years ago off late night tv of “CARVE HER NAME WITH PRIDE”, great film about a very brave woman and one of those classic British World War II films one can watch over and over !!!!! Perhaps with the state the world is in now with the new face of terrorism, the good guys might need to bring back the OSE, Mr Churchill had the right idea !!!!!

    Outstanding Photo’s Colin!

    Colin:

Thanks for the link to the website you provided, looks like you guys had some good weather for that day. Noted that some of the runway or taxi ways are still there….looks like the opening scenes from my all time favorite film ” 12 O’Clock High” with Greg Peck ! I see some of the building are still standing, is there a museum there of some sort? Thanks for providing those great photo’s…..Long live the memory of the Mighty Eighth !!!!

Colin thanks for those great photo’s !

    Colin:

Thanks so much for you words here and thoughts on those men from the 385th BG returning to their former home during WWII. Love the photo’s and I hope you will scan more here ! Speaking as a long time associate member of The Mighty Eighth Historical Society I hold these men in high regard and I know they hold your nation and its people in very high regard as well. The men of The Mighty Eighth had a very special relationship with the people of the United Kingdom and did much to bring our two nations closer together! Hope the men of the 385th are having a great time in the UK and so glad that 25 are able to travel back to see their former home !
