    Checking out that Spitfire !!!!

Two of the finest fighter pilots of all time sitting side by side, Galland was a pleasure to speak with as well and the talk they gave on the Battle of Britain was outstanding and took plenty of time for question and answers by the audience. I sat beside a pretty good pilot in his own right, P-47 56th FG Ace Bob Johnson. Galland & Johnson really put on a show with great give and take between the two aces. Now these shows are very rare indeed ! Galland spent alot of time checking out that Spitfire Print !!!!

Rob, thanks and no problem…I was really amazed that there was enought material out there for this length of a program. I knew Col Morgan for many years and talke to him about what his crew thought of a cameraman climbing around his B-17 as they flew a mission. The famed director Willliam Wyler even went up and got some shots of the Memphis Belle landing from the ball turret. I can’t even began to wonder how hard it was to shoot film under actual combat conditions inside a B-17 ‘under fire, when one walks inside a Fort you began to see how small and cramped they are. Going to order this myself…thanks for the reply !

Thanks alan125 for the note on Hurricane Dig!

Thanks for the notes on “The Huricane that saved London “, we only got the very limited version of the program and sadly the US version was a voiced by an american announcer and not the woman presenter ( we say anchor here in the states). I was hoping for that version of the program here and remove the commericals that aired and you get maybe 50 minutes of a program. Not familiar with the Vic Murphy story that you speak of on Channel 5. We are getting the Time Team porgrams here on History Channel International. Thanks for the update on those programs!

    A note of thanks from:

War & Peace from Bodney !

One of the best photos from Bodney that shows a little bit of peace during wartime operation from the home of The BlueNosers. Love the contrast of the P-51 parked awaiting aciton and the sheep farmer at work in far corner of the photo. You’ll find this great photo in the 352nd Group History..one of my favorite photograph’s taken in England during the war! Some photo!

    BlueNoser352 On Holy Ground !!!!

” Hey, where did all those wonderful BlueNose P-51’s Go?”….. Here I am at Bodney and walking on what I consider holy ground . Heck when I retire I just might relocate back to Bodney ! Wonderful country and when you walk in a place like this you can feel the power of the men who came and defeated evil and insured the freedom’s for our generations and those to come ! I also feel the same way when I walk on British airfields as well !!!!

Those are some excellent suggestions gang…but what about film on the Feb 1944 low level raid on Amiens Prison in Operation Jericho. I did buy the 1948 French Film about in off the amazon.fr site and while it was interesting to watch, I felt much more could be added now with modern film making & computer ability. What a great cliff hanger of a story, low level last minute attack to save many doomed members of the resistance. I was disappointed the DVD version Operation Jericho did hot have the original attack footage incorporated into the film. The real attack took place in Feb of 44 and from the original film of the attack I have seen, there was snow on the ground. The French film looks like the attack came in the summer, think they used about 6 real Mossie’s in the final attack scenes of the film. With the right script & actors who are commited to keeping with the true facts of the story…would be solid winner. The real story itself is better than any film that could be made about it !

    Thanks!

Thanks Ron…I spent a long time and many phone calls locating the entire crew and was hoping like heck to find one of those waist gunners who had the original jackets.
I admit I have love form of art work & expression. Now I am trying to find out the crew members who flew a B-24 called “Tar Heel Baby” with the 707th SQ 446th BG.
Saw a photograph of it flying on D-Day over Portsmouth harbour on a British website for the groups local museum in England. So far all my efforts have not turned up any leads…I am afraid most the men who flew on the B-24 have passed on. The Liberator did return to the states after the war and sadly was scrapped ar wars end! Will post many more nose art A-2’s here from my collection of photographs I have been taking for the last 25 years or so in the UK & here in the states at Eighth AF events and airshows ! Did you see those A-2 connected with the 100BG ??? On Eastman’s no less!
Glad you and all here enjoyed the photographs…its been such fun collecting them and meeting great like minded folks around the US & UK who share similar interest!

The Hurricane That Save London !

Watched it twice last night on our version of “The History Channel” and the Time Team production with the Spitfire in France was on The History Channel International as well. I thought the program on the Hurricane was fantastic and what elements to the story. Speaking as someone who works in television news , the wonderful archieve material and the mere fact there was footage of the actual crash of his fighter and the German bomber to use. Plus its been over 60 years since that happened and the Pilot of the Hurricane and his ground crew member are both still alive to be interviewed. Plus the added fact of the local people who still remember that day back in 1940….that is truly amazing. Hats off to the recover team for their hard work to do this and get premission from the government to do so. I bet there were many local levels of government to deal with to make that happen. With commerical’s here , it ran about 55 minutes on the History Channel. Was it a longer program when it aired on UK television. Which broadcasting company carried it live on tv…BBC ? Channel 4..? What a great way to tie in history and teleivsion. Could not ask for a better way to tell and story with the key figure alive and their at the end of the program. The Time Team program on the Spit was excellent as well and makes you wonder how many other WWII crash sites are out there to explore?

    Thanks!
