You all have good arguments, even though some touch on the conspiracy thing a little bit too much.
Some of u argue that it would be bad marketing for Russia to sell its latest MiG-29 saying it had been shot down but achieved no kills…can’t we take a look at the flip side of the coin though??? Could u imagine the F-15 being marketed to Singapore and Korea etc with small print at the end of a fab’ advert boasting its power saying…P.S. lost three over Syria to elderly MiG-21…
If the US choose to cover up its air-to-air losses by claiming technical failure or TRIPLE A then they could easily do so and it wouldn’t be a conspiracy it would just be simple propoganda.
Who remembers the F/A-18 that got shot down by an Iraqi MiG-25, the pilot of the Foxbat was in the right place at the right time and squeezed off a missile which happened to hit, now how many times have we all heard on this forum and others that the F/A-18 was lost by technical failure, pilot error, SAM’s, bird strike….so far the only thing I haven’t heard was ET kidnapped the pilot and the plane fell out of the sky!!! :p
I was just playing with the embarrased thing
As Contrailjj said Roundels really have little or no use in todays world, except for visual recognition on the battlefield by troops on the ground…when I was training in the army I was surprised most of the guys had little knowledge of equipment operated by the army and couldn’t tell the difference between a Challenger and a Sherman :p
There are some nations which seem to have ruled out national markings on certain aircraft…Angolan Flankers anyone???…for the simple fact that they operate against mainly rebel forces lacking any aircraft and therefore will be the only aircraft in the sky.
The British Army Merlin is employed currently on mainly Peace Keeping duties in parts of the world where either the opposing air force is now non-existant…Balkans (yes I know the Serbian Air Force still exists but it is no-longer a threat, we are at peace 🙂 )…or where the opposing government has been replaced and is assisting British forces such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
If the Merlin was to go to war in a major conflict where there was a strong possibility of our troops or those of allied nations needing to visually identify the aircraft I’m sure u’ll see a great big British flag painted on the side…anyone remember the Lynx during Desert Storm with the great big ruddy Union Jack on the sides and underneath???
Maybe it’s because they’re so embarrased about operating it, they don’t want anyone to know they’re British ha ha :p :p
Skipping topic slightly, the G.91 was evaluated by the US Army wasn’t it? Did the experience in Africa have anything to do with the decision not to take it? I’m pretty sure it was the Army not the USAF
Oh I agree, Advanced War Fighter is better than the first two – Ghost Recon’ and Island Thunder – but on XBox u can shoot a Mexican rebel with ur sniper rifle straight through the eyes and the bloke just shrugs it off (tough blokes those Mexicans :p ) and I just down get the whole UAV thing, appears on a little box in the upper right (???) section of ur HUD where u can barely see it. And when I tell my guys to advance, I’D LIKE THEM TO SHOOT BACK IF THEY’RE GETTING SHOT AT, NOT STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREETS GOING “Ouch” and “I’m hit”…well get out of the way then Numb Nut’s!!! 😀

Future Pilot, get D3…u can pick it up on most bargain shelves for around a tenner these days, or go to any “GAME” store if u have that franchise around and u will pick it up on the two for twenty racks…more than worth it. The Collectors Edition comes with the original Doom and Doom 2 as well as some interesting short documenatries about the Doom series.
I heard some interesting stuff bout “The Suffering”, it does sound good but its sequel “Ties that Bind” is said to be just the same game with a few extras thrown in.
Anybody played “Call of Chuthulu” or however the hell u spell it
Oh, and picking up on the Silent Service thing…try taking ur sub’ as far down as she’ll go on Silent Hunter…that’s quite scary 😉

Future Pilot, sorry thought u were playim’ XBox, played GR2 on PS2 on my mates console and I gotta say it sucked in comparrison, it’s a different storyline yet a few years before the XBox version and the AI seemed less developed than the XBox. U never got to play Summit Strike I take it? Set in Kazakhstan, lots of fun and very challenging!!!
I don’t have anything against football games ar anything but why are there so many, I mean how many variations of kicking a ball can there be???

Now that u mention it, I have heard great things about Resident Evil but have never got round to playing the several sequels that are out. Sequels don’t seem to have the same impact…Doom3 Resurrection of Evil just didn’t have that “What the hell was that???” kinda feel to it as Doom3 did.
Played Silent Hill, but it didn’t have the feeling of being all alone that Doom3 has, I know I keep going on about D3 but it just sets a bench mark against which I compare all other scaries.
I mean, just for example…when ur walking down a corridor in D3 on Mars City, I tend to have that “I’m all alone here…aren’t I???” feeling. And the stories u hear on through the game give it a real sense of atmosphere.
Silent Hill was shoot this pick up that kill them, Doom3 is….Run, don’t look back just ruddy RUN!!!!! :diablo:

Ravis, gotta agree…u know u have a beautiful aircraft on ur hands when ur girlfriend who thinks this kinda thing is boring looks at the Rafale and says “Ooooo, what’s that???” 😉
Future Pilot, I too have purchased (well exchanged actually) Ghost Recon’s latest outting and I must say I’m not impressed, that is surprising since I loved all the others (especially the last two, Summit Strike and GR2 set in Korea). Can’t believe they went back to third person and the images look bit too grainy for XBox.
Barnowl – Hearts of Iron II, is that a new strategy? I’m a big strategy fan on my PC and am currently addicted to two oldies…Railroad Tycoon and C&C Red Alert 2. I’m looking for a WWII game based on strategy and would love to know if H of I fits the bill. 🙂
DazDaMan, if u liked Blazing Angels then try Heroes of the Pacific. Having felt let down by Secrets over Normandy I was a bit reluctant to by H of the Pacific but when I got it cheap ( a tenner) I took the chance and am now busy blasting those damn Jap’s out of the sky…no offence to any of our Oriental friends intended 😉
