Seems, this specific one was used by the Russians.

All wartime had Halbrundkopf – screws.

I respect your knowledge of these kinds of items but to know just by the types of screws used is just mind blowing!! (in a nice way;) ).

Knowing that it is post war then, yes I think the asking price is a little off the mark as it were but as a Mig stick top I think it has to be a real good one, would be interesting to see how much it would go for as an auction.

re the git seals 3/4 by 1 inch available from Blue Diamond in Southampton, thats where I got some for 458
    re 728 just a theory
If the IVV is not doing its stuff and the flaps are blocked off it it is entirely possible that the tank is beibg drawn down to a vacuum by fuel transfer to the engine. the only inward path being the transfer pipe fitted in mod er forgot its number but it is onle a 3/8 dia and limmited to the rate of ballance specially if the tank is nearly empty.
Is the situation worse with empty tank.
This from long conversation under wing of 53-671 at GAM with milt n dave a couple of weeks back.
Got pressure gauges to cover the relevent pressures and a little logger to strap in the wheel bay. if any help
still cant figurt out why it dose it on a run could be tied up with the datum pressure and ram air pressure in the LE throught the LE slot.

With language like that you would do well in Outer Mongolia:D , seriously though it’s nice to hear some technical speak on Lightnings.

I’m amazed they put the Transmit button and Bomb release button so close to each other

I wonder if that ever caused one of those “I’m sure I pressed the right button” moments.

I hope that the pilot walked over calmly and cracked her one right on the nose end, ‘no big deal’?, I’m sure the owner thinks it is a hell of a deal when he gets the repair bill.

    Looks like XM174/Y

    Mark

XM174 ‘Y’ was on charge from 15/12/60 untill 23/01/01 when she was sent to Boscombe Down for trials.

I go with Pauls theory on staging the colour scheme for the shoot.

Creakingdoor, stall speed of the Lightning s about 150kts IIRC.

Nice picture mark, just to add a little more ‘evidence’ the Lightning is a 56 Sqd machine and they did not get equiped with them until January 1961.

Can you see the serial number on her?.

    Digital!! How dare you imply…:)

    Nothing digital.

An Air Ministry print, neg number PRB 21685

It must be the way the scanner has scanned the information in, there is a definate grey line across the top of the Hunter and the starboard wing of the Bulldog that put me off kilter.

Something looks very ‘digital’ about the picture, the Lightning is in squadron markings so this dates the picture at the very earliest 1960.

I bet it smelt beautifull, sticking your nose in the cockpit and grabbing a nosefull of Lightning.

It can never be said enough that ALL of you, LPG, Bucc boys, Beach restorations and all the other little groups and individuals that make up the collective at Bruntingthorpe do the BEST service to the preservation of these jets that is totally above and beyond the call of duty.

As always keep up the good work and as long as the gates are open we WILL be there.

    All the best,

    John.

Just wondering, exactly how many TSR-2’s were planned and/or hoped for/proposed for the RAF?

Two things have always struck me about the TSR-2. Firstly it always seems like a continuation of the air ministrys love of extravagant aircraft/requirements (V/STOL transport aircraft, Mach-3 bombers and interceptors, supersonic V/STOL aircraft etc). Secondly it always seemed like a theatre rather than tactical bomber, medium if you like, kind of in line (if smaller than) the Tu-22.

One other question, Wikipedia (by my own admition far from a reliable source) mentions that improvements were planned to enhance the payload, does anybody no whether this is true? Were there any proposals for developments or evolutions?

Seem to remember reading somewhere that the initial order was for 50 airframes.
