Would it be collective?, I was under the impression that the collective grip was also a ‘twist’ grip to control engine rpm.
It certainly has American heritage though.

You chaps certainly, ahem, had your money’s worth out of that Port mainwheel tyre! I’m guessing that crosswind was something to do with it?
The tyre was chewed up owing to the crosswind component, the Lightning was blessed with thin, high pressure tyres and crosswinds greatly reduced tyre life, sometimes down to only two or three flights!!!.

The highlight of the day for me was being towed out of the Q-shed while sat in XS904:D:D:D happy bunny is an understatement;)
John.
Or maybe the T.1 N936FC at Calverton….who knows!
John.
Could be the one at Chino thats been for sale for a while now?…..T.1 XP514.
Looks like the oleo’s could do with a pump up though.
John.
I would really like to get hold of a main altimeter/vario instrument for a Mk.6 Lightning, thats the big one that I am after, other smalls include a rad alt, EGT gauge, brake pressure gauge and any other panel bits and bobs that take my fancy.
If anyone has any lightning bits that may be in the offing, please PM me.

John.
Something very odd about this one, absurd asking price, no picture and the sellers feedback is very sus……..
John.
Hmmmmm 5000 + servicable Shackleton spares, even at a bargain price of around £10 per part you bust the 50K mark, can WR963 stretch that far?.
John.
Lighty,
I couldn’t have put it better myself 😀 :D, just sat her now with the operating data manual for the T.5 and gave up after reading the first few para’s!!!!!.

Plessey engine starter…………
As if the asking price isn’t shocking enough the description is an absolute peach, the guy should have been a comedian!!!!.

Merkle,
I’ve had a dig but can’t find them ATM, I was sent some pics of her as she is now, the cockpit tub was resurected from a few of the remaining frames and canopy assembly, the internals were pieced together from spares and it has become quite a respectable looking cockpit rig, all be it missing the skin!.
HTH,
John.
Merkle,
The only ‘true’ value is what the current owner is willing to part with her for and nothing else, now I am not mud slinging here but just think about her current situation, she is sat within a scrap yard so the owner may look at her as a ‘weigh in’ value.
At more than 10+ tonnes she could be well over 5K as scrap, plus transport, plus craneage, plus cutting and manpower, this is starting to get expensive just for a bare cockpit tub!!.
The other spanner could be that the current owner sees her as a meal ticket and asks an astranomical price for her in the first place, think of a figure and treble it then add a few noughts and you see how this could end up!.
Still the only surefire way finding out the ‘true’ value is to go to the yard and ask, you never know you might come away a happy man, then again even if it was given away to some lucky punter, he would need clown sized pockets full of cash just to get her of site and anywhere near ready for restoration.
HTH,
John.
Heard a few stories from my old man about Fred Warr’s place, the time when a customer tried to kick over an old 750 side valve, in his haste to get it started he inadvertantly advanced the manual timing, after two dry kicks the third resulted in a back fire and the kicker ejected the happless fellow in a full summersault over the top of the bike!!!
Her we are about to have a blast on his current ride, see if you can spot the aviation theme!…..
